Virl S. Eddie, 85, died on Sunday, May 30, 1999, at the Southwest Medical Center, Liberal, Kansas. He was born on February 17, 1914, in Harvey County, Kansas, the son of Alvin and Julia (Brooking) Eddie. In 1935, he moved to the Yakima Valley in Washington, where he was a foreman for farm laborers. In 1945 he moved to Ulysses, Kansas where he farmed, raised livestock, sold anhydrous ammonia, processed pinto beans, black-eyed peas and sold certified seed. He owned a feed, cream and egg business. Gleaner Combine and Allis Chalmers dealership, attended the Shelton Memorial Christian Church, member of the Rebekah Lodge and I.O.O.F. Lodge #356. Served on the Grant county Museum Board and the Grant County Senior Center Board., was Pioneer of the year in 1995. He enjoyed square dancing and was an avid antique collector.
On April 15, 1930, he married Mary Louise Yohn, in Liberal, Kansas. She died in 1983. On July 18, 1984, he married Jessie Wood in Ulysses, Kansas, she survives.
Other survivors include; two sons, Maurice and wife Pegg Eddie of Kalispell, Montana, Steve and wife Tammy Eddie of Ulysses; one daughter Carole and husband Doyle Jennings of Kismet, Kansas; two step-sons, Bennie and wife Sherry Wood of Hugoton Kansas, Gale and wife Carol Wood of Lakin, Kansas; one brother, Ivan Eddie of Outlook, Washington, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
he was preceded in death by one son, Donald Eddie.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 4, 1999 at the Shelton Memorial Christian Church. Burial was in the Ulysses Cemetery.
