I am trying to confirm the identities of four people who appear in the 1880 census: Peter b. 1857 and Louisa Snyder b. 1862. I believe that these are Peter Snyder or Schneider and Louisa Michells (or Mitchell) both originally from North Collins, New York. I also believe that John (b. 1822) and Barbara (Gries) Mitchell (b. 1820 Baden) are the parents of Louisa. In death records there is also a Nicholas Mitchell (b. 1865) who I believe is Louisa's sister.
I would appreciate it if anyone had any ideas about where to check to confirm this. In particular, I would be interested in finding burial or cemetery records. If all these people were German Catholics, where would they most likely be buried? Is there any particular church that they would have likely attended?
As more general questions, was 1880 still homesteading times? Also, does anyone know whether many people from the same part of New York settled in this area?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
