I have a picture, taken in Hutchinson, that's driving me crazy. I might be my grandmother, or it might be one of her sisters. It looks like it could have been a high school graduation picture. My grandmother, "Carrie" Carter, would have been 18 years old in 1890. My mother said that Carrie went to school in Hutchinson, but Mom's memory is very unreliable.
Unfortunately, my knowledge of scholastic history is a bit vague. Did Hutchinson have a high school in 1890? Or were all the Reno County schools still one-room schoolhouses at the time? If there was a high school, are there any existing records or pictures? Did graduates of the one-room schoolhouses usually have pictures taken?
Thanks,
Nancy Bower
