Bingo here, too!
The postman just brought me the copy of Johanna Margaretha's marriage record we were waiting for. YES! She is indeed the daughter of Abraham Gerardus Stuffers and Margarethe V D Berg. I think you are correct in assuming that this was an arranged marriage. She only had 12 days to get from New York to Holland, Nebraska. No time for courting there!
I'd very much like to see those scans.
I think I know why Margarethe van den Berg, Johanna Margaretha and Johanna Maria were travelling so much. They were visiting Johanna Cornelia Stuffers . Johanna Cornelia married Lambertus Pieter Zeeberg, a fabrikant from Amsterdam, on 14 April 1875 and left for Amsterdam on 30 April 1875. On 27 June 1882, Lambertus died in Nieuw Loosdrecht. On 29 October 1885, Johanna Cornelia married again, this time to Carel Hendrick Ehrenfeld in Vreeland.
One question about the population register scan that you sent me--at the very end of line 5 there is a note written in pencil. Can you make out what it says?
I'd also like to compensate you for all this work you have done for me. You have answered questions that I despaired of ever resolving. What can I pay you to compensate for your time and effort?
With much gratitude,
