Milton Hower, 94, Holton, formerly of Whiting, died Aug. 10, 2008, at a Sabetha care facility. He was born Dec. 31, 1913, near Lincoln, the son of Archibald and Lydia Stevenson Hower. He graduated from Lucas High School in 1932. Mr. Hower was a farmer and a stockman. He was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton, where he served as secretary of the Volunteer Sunday School Class for many years. He also served on the Whiting school board. He married Doris L. Ruppenthal on May 13, 1932, at Lucas. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Kendal G. Hower and wife Mary, Dodge City, and Eldon D. "Bud" Hower and wife Betty, Whiting; two daughters, Lurilla D. Mayfield, Everest, and Ruthetta M. Hulser, Holton; two sisters, Ruth Sigmund, Holton, and Mayetta Cahill, Whiting; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Wilfred Bruce Hower, who died in infancy; a granddaughter, Janie Hulser; and five brothers, Raymond Hower, Paul Hower, Theodore Hower, Warren Hower and Lawrence Hower. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Mr. Hower will lie in state after 7:30 a.m. Aug. 13 at the funeral home, where family and friends will meet from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. that evening.
