Max E. Kehler, 80, of Topeka, died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. He was born September 27, 1927 at Holton, the son of Ellsworth and Alice Mesnard Kehler. He attended school in Wetmore and Holton and graduated from Netawaka High School in 1946. Max farmed and worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He later operated Kehler Tire Service east of Circleville. He had also worked for Holton Livestock Exchange and for Rezac Livestock Exchange at St. Marys. He was a former member of the Circleville Christian Church and currently a member of Countryside Christian Church in Topeka. Max had been a 4-H Community Leader with the Ontario Busy Bees, and he and his wife Doris were past district directors of the Family Campers & R.V.ers, and the Kansas Campers. He married Doris Jean Vaught on November 20, 1949 at Holton. She survives. Max was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and John Kehler, a sister, Bernice Owings, and two grandchildren, Jeanine Holt and Christopher Kehler. Other survivors include two sons, David Kehler and wife Cherrie, El Dorado, and Gordon Kehler and wife Brenda, Topeka; two daughters, Jeanette Wright and husband Larry, Kearney, MO, and Eileen Veal and husband Richard, Topeka; one sister, Kathryn Weckman, Holton; twelve grandchildren, four step- grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 14th at the Countryside Christian Church. Burial will follow in the Holton Cemetery. Max will lie in state at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton where family and friends will meet from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
