I was a confused 6 year old when my mom told me our neighborhood friend just died in his own bedroom.

Mildred with parents in Ottawa in 1920 US census, but not Sylvia. Fred and Daisy without kids in Osage, Allen, KS during 1925 Ks census. There is no marriage record of either Sylvia or Mildred in Franklin County. I didn't see a burial record for either of them. The only Sylvia I saw that might be a possiblity is a 25 yr old Syvia born in Ks married to Frank Hall in the 1925 Ks census in Osawatamie, Miami Co, Ks, which is close.
The only Mildreds I see in Allen Co. Ks in 1925 are in Iola.

Hello Marysue.. we were destined to meet again. I'm going through the Wilcox, Burson, Kenley connection and here pops up your name again. You did mention this.. but, I hadn't reached that "level of ancestry enlightenment" yet. I DO have George's death date.. It was written in Catherine Kenley-Propeck's bible. It was Jan. 13, 1926. Julia Died July 20, 1942. How were the Wilcox's involved with John J. Stinebaugh? He is listed as head in 1930 census..Wilcox and Samantha Burson are "cousins". I'm trying to piece all that together, but I can't quite figure out all of these marriages. Do you have this info on your tree?
Take care and best to you,
Elisa

Russel family in 1870 census

During the 1870 census of Ward 3 in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas, Sydney [sic] Russel, a carpenter, worth $1200 in real estate, born in Ohio, and 46 years old, was married to Mary, age 52, born in Pennsylvania. They had two daughters at home: Belle, age 13 and born in Iowa (Mary B. of the 1860 census) and Carrie, age 11 and also born in Iowa, according to this record... (Dwelling #165, Family 165). Daughter Foretta (Nettie) has vanished from this family, either married out or died.

I suspect that Mary Belle Russell stayed in Kansas, maybe in Franklin County, and married. She was not with her parents in Ohio during the 1880 census. She was born about 1859. Does anyone have information about her?

Any information about this Russell family?

11mitchell@mchsi.com

Not much help. Didn't see any death, probate or cemetery record. He's listed in 1884-5 Ottawa Directory as being from Princeton, Ill and in the 1887 Ottawa Directory as a farmer. Didn't see them listed after that.
Did find a Oct. 20, 1902 newspaper article about a box having been dug up under the cornerstone of the Lutheran Church. Story had the stone being laid 9Aug1885, and an S.R. Cameron was an elder. May have been him.

I am seeking help for especially death or burial records in Franklin County. SIMON P. CAMERON was born in Pennsylvania abt. 1823. His wife was MARIE nee CULBERTSON who was also born in Pennsylvania. The 1850 census showed the family in Juniata County, Pennsylvania. In 1860 and 1870 they lived in Bureau County, Illinois. I did not find them in the 1880 census but they were found in the 1885 Kansas census in Ottawa. I assume Simon & Marie may have died there. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Didn't find death dates you were looking for, but did find some information that might be of interest.

From the Ottawa Herald November 9, 1946
"JAY L.DOTY OF QUENEMO DEAD
Jay L. DOty, 57, of Quenemo, died last evening in Ransom Memoral hospital. Death was caused by asthma. He had been a resident of Quenemo 20 years.
He was born at Norwood, Kas., April 16, 1889, a son of William and Louisa (Buckmiller) Doty. He married Bessie M. Bumps April 19, 1910, in Ottawa.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Louisa Doty of Ottawa, the widow; eight daughters, Mrs. Harry Reiner, Williamsburg; Mrs. Henry Cooley, Mooreland, Okla; Mrs. Chester Grimm, Formosa, Kas.; Misses Imogene and Willa Doty of Lawrence; and Phyllis and Patty Doty of the home, and one son, Lyle Doty, also of the home.
Also surviving are a brother, Edgar Doty of Chino, Calif., a sister, Mrs. Leo Howard of Ottawa and five grandchildren.
Doty was a member of North Baptitst church. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 at McVey Mortuary. Burial will be in Hope cemetery, Rev. A. C. Stewart of Rosemont church will be in charge."

There are generally one or two years gaps in the early available City directories. W.E. Doty first shows up in 1895 as a blacksmith and again in 1900 as a canvasser. They are not in the 1903-4 directory. Mrs. Lousia B. Doty is in the 1905 directory and is first noted as a widow in the directory in 1921. She continues to be listed in the directory through 1950.

There are a couple columns in the Franklin County History about Jay's brother Edgar Doty. Notes parents as William Edward Doty and Barbara Louesa Buckmiller Doty and grandparents as Philander and Marilla Langdon Doty. Notes that W.E. Doty is buried at Pueblo, Colorado and the Barbara is buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin, Kansas (Douglas County). If you'd like to contact me, I'll send a copy of the article.

Bryant was killed and Mr. Bryant severely injured and their daughter, Mrs. E.C. Machlan and her son, Arthur, were also injured, when their car overturned as they were driving south towards Ottawa, about 4 miles northeast, last night about 6 o'clock. Mrs. Bryant died at Community hospital about an hour after she had been taken there as the result of a fractured skull and shock. Mr. Bryant had a scalp wound and a wound on the right side of his body. It was feared the wound on his head might prove serious. He was in a semi-conscious condition today.
Mrs. Machlan was injured in one arm and one leg, while Mr. Machlan sustained a scalp wound and numerous bruises.
The car, driving south came up behind a buggy driving in the same direction. The buggy was not seen, it was said today, until the driver, Mr. Machlan, was close upon it, too close to make a safe turn to the other side of the road. When he attempted to swerve across the road, either the turn was too short or the wheels locked and the car went into a shallow ditch and turned over. The car was almost demolished.
Dr. W. E. Michener and Dr. John Davis were called and an ambulance from Lamb's went out to bring in the injured. All of the victims were brought back to the Community hospital.
The Bryants had been at the E.C. Machlan home, northeat of Ottawa, and were being brought to their home in Ottawa when the accident occured. The Bryants live at 908 South Walnut.
Mrs. Bryant was 77 years old.
A quick scan of the January paper hasn't yet yielded an obit. Ezra shows up in the 1921 Ottawa Directory. There are some gaps in the directories. Williams widow shows up until the 1941 directory, is missing in the 1946 directory. There is a one column story about William and Minnie in the Franklin County History that was written by his daughter Mary. Doesn't explain any more about his or his parents deaths, or his siblings. It does give some information about his and his descendants lives. If you would like a copy, you can send your e-mail and I will scan and forward to you.

Searching for George W BAKER's Civil War record

My GGGGrandfather: George Washington Baker (b. 1848, Ladoga, IN; d. 1918, Princeton, KS).

My aunt had a photo of George and his civil war buddies from the Cavalry. Although there are George Bakers listed as serving in a couple of Kansas Cavalrys, I have not found one that I can definitively attribute to my grandfather.

Any help would be most appreciated!

Cheers,
Denise

January 1922, Ezra Bryant, wife Sarah (Boyle) Bryant and son William Bryant were apparently all involved in a car accident which killed all of them I would certainly appreciate all information regarding the accident and any obituaries you may have. The obituaries may help me in locating Lena and Effie, daughters to Ezra and Sarah who I can't find any records for.

Thank You,
