I had the same problem when researching my Gt Gt Grandmother,a Primitive Methodist preacher who had written her autobiography in 1872;I found a copy in the New York Library,no copies here in the UK,but the Brigham Young library in Utah had a copy and the very helpful librarian photocopied over 20 pages for me and posted it to me,I offered to pay all costs involved but they would not take anything!I could not believe how helpful they were,it certainly helped me with my research so maybe give them a try
Good Luck
Best regards from Yorkshire,England

Option #1:
Just ask your local library to process an Inter-Library Loan request. They'll handle all the details.

Option #2:
As the book is also available in print and on microfilm through the Family History Library system, you can initiate an order at your local branch and have it sent there from Salt Lake City.

Book at the Kansas Library

I've uncovered information that a book:

The genealogy and history of the Record family : with over one hundred immigrant ancestors who arrived in Plymouth before 1650, including two Mayflower passengers, John Alden and Francis Cooke - Dorothy Wilson

directly pertains to my family history. Unfortunately after googling the book there are only two copies listed as it is out of print. Both locations are in Kansas, one being in Dodge City.

I would really like to use this book or get ahold of it for a time. What are the library systems like out there? Would they loan it to me? Being from MA and 1500 miles away makes it rather difficult to walk in and borrow a book!

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Michael
Suggest you go to Findagrave.com and view the three TOLSON tombstones found in Silent Land cemetery - Ford County, KS.

The heading for Catherine's is "Catherine Emerick Tolson", although Emerick does not appear on her tombstone. You might contact the person who posted the photo for further info.

I suspect that you will only find (at best) a short death notice in the old newspapers.

Best wishes in your search.

Robert in Arkansas
I have to do more investigating, But I do know that David Morrow was my great great great Grandfather ( I think I got the number of greats right.) As a kid I remember both my mother and grandmother telling me about the family history. My grandmother was born in Dodge City, Kansas. She used to tell me about how David was a lawman with Bat Matterson, the white Buffalo, Anne Morrow being her great Aunt, the connection to Charles Lindbergh ect. The only thing on him I have is a newspaper clipping with his picture and a brief biography. My Grandmother was from a family in Kansas named Wintemute. If any other information on Morrow comes up, I will share. I also would like to know anything else about him if possible also.

William A. Harris

Yes, this helps considerably. Thank you very much! The match seems to be certain with these added bits of information including the two brothers' names (both match my prior information).

I am in the final stages of completing The Coopers in America, 1791-2012, and this opens up the possibility of a whole new line of descendancy extending from a previous dead end in generation three. Hearty thanks are in order. I would also like to credit you properly if possible in the book for your very timely and helpful assistance, if that would suit you.

I only wish there were some way to contact you directly to thank you more properly and find out how you would like to be identified.

Sincerely,
ScribeDesk Dan Cooper

I would like to find the obituary, if any, for my great grandmother. I don't have the exact date, only that she died in Oct 1911 in Dodge City.
Her name was Mary (or May)L. McMullin on the 1910 Census. Hopefully that was still her name when she died (she married several times before that).
If someone could attempt to look it up, I'd appreciate. Or...let me know what newspapers were around at that time in Dodge City and I might be able to order a microfilm from my library in Seattle. Thank you.

Well, since I was so lucky with receiving the obituary for Raymond Rydberg, I thought I'd see if lightning could strike twice. The subject individual was Raymond's wife who died in 2003. Here is her Find-A-Grave page which is still, as always, a "work in progress":

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=89...

According to Ancestry.com, her obit was published in both the Hutchinson News and the Wichita Eagle on January 16, 2003.

Thanks to anyone who can help me here. With 300+ burials and less than ten of them Rickman's, it would hardly qualify to be called the Rickman cemetery, but perhaps these are the people you seek.

After the Post was abandoned by the government in 1882, graves of military personnel were moved to Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, in 1886. Graves of citizens remained, and the cemetery became part of the Fort Dodge Old Soldiers' Home which was established at the Post in 1890. The old cemetery is now adjacent to, and a part of, the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Physically, the cemetery is at 11560 U.S. Highway 400, east of Dodge City.

Here is a link to the list of those buried at the Post Cemetery: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ks/county/ford/cemeteries/postce...
I believe the last burial here was around 1881. Does anyone know the exact location of this cemetery, i.e., actual graves, stones, etc.?
Thank you.

Cholera Outbreak

Does anyone know if any records exist of illness outbreaks at Fort Dodge? I am reseaching a gentleman, Milton Glasgow, who was traveling with his brother and other young men to Colorado. When they reached Fort Dodge, they all fell to a cholera outbreak and Milton was the only survivor.
I found a Post Cemetery file with the buried listed. A William Glasgow died on 7-26-1867 and 36 others died within a 2 week period. Milton did have a brother named William but this date might be a few years too early for them.
Any suggestions would be helpful,

Anita McKinney
