Larry,
I was doing more research for my great grandmother, Myrtle and found that she and Benjamin must have known each other before she was married to her first husband Wm.

Charles William "Will" Swain was born in Richland Twp., Cowley Co., KS on September 21, 1884. He was one of several children of Arthur and Nola Swain who are buried in the Widener Cemetery east of Rock, KS. I've been able to trace Will Swain up to 1920 when he was the owner of an auto agency in Wichita, KS. Can anyone tell me whatever became of Will Swain after that?

I am Carolea's first cousin (Shirley). My mother was Maxine's sister. My brother and I have been trying to locate Tammy Suzanne. We were talking about her last week. The last time I saw her was about 2000. She came here to San Antonio, TX to visit my sister Dianna and I. My brother Don has done a lot of family research and has a lot of information. He lives in Albuquerque, NM. The last I heard Suzanne was in Texas somewhere. If you would like my email address: startymes19@aol.com.

Anyone have information or photo of old wooden frame church of Holy Name Catholic Church before new stone/brick church was built in Winfield. The old wooden frame church was moved to Red Bud, Kansas where cemetery is now. Do you know the year it was built or moved? A photo would be terrific!! Do you know the year the old Holy Name wooden frame church in Red Bud was torn down? Did it keep the Holy Name "name" or did they change the name when they moved it to Red Bud since the church in Winfield kept the "name" Holy Name Catholic Church. I can't find much about the history. Sciross@aol.com

Lona Sandeers Hoober Ebaugh ?

Seeking info on my paternal grandmother. She is on the 1910 census with father Clinton and mother Edna Snow Sanders plus 2 siblings. This census says her birth year is 1895 in Missouri - living in Arkansas City Ward 3 Cowley Kansas. On 1915 Arkansas City, Cowley Kansas state census she is married to Joseph H Hoober and has sons Joseph Wayne (3) and Clarence B Hoober (3 months)She left Joseph Hoober and November 6, 1919 I show a marriage to Wilbur Lee Ebaugh Perry, Noble Co. Oklahoma. The marriage papers show Lona's residence was Galveston Texas. By the 1920 Newkirk, Kay, Ok census Lona, Wilbur/Wilbert, his son Robert Ebaugh and Lonas two sons are shown. By June 3 1921 Lona files for divorce in Kay County Ok and that becomes final March 1922. FROM HERE I HAVE NO RECORD OF LONA OR CLARENCE. LONA'S SON JOSEPH WAYNE HOOBER WAS SENT BACK TO LIVE WITH HIS FATHER IN WASHINGTON STATE. Does ANYONE have any of these people on their tree or memories?
OK...the 1930 (age 2) and 1940 (age 12) census records lists a daughter, Marian Mace within the family of Carl & Gladys Mace.
The Mace family has left Kansas by 1947 when their son, Howard marries in Vigo County, Indiana.
By 1999 when a brother, Glen dies; no mention of Marian as a surviving sister is listed.
By 2003 when her mother, Gladys, passes - again, no mention of this child. Preceded in death is the husband, Carl (I do not have his obit yet) and son Glen, why wouldn't Marian be mentioned as a preceded daughter???

MY THEORY:
Marian Mace was 12 in 1940; perhaps shortly after the census she died? OR, by age 12 back then, that is marriage age, perhaps she married and remained in Kansas with no contact with family in Indiana??? I am thinking she may have died at a young age.

Can someone look around for her to figure out what happened to her - married? - died?
I would greatly appreciate the help in this puzzle!
Thank you - Dottie

I found the following entry in the book, "Births and Deaths of Cowley County, Kansas as Abstracted from the Winfield Daily Courier and Other Sources 1875-1969". That entry had appeared in the Winfield Courier on 23 Aug 1906. The material in brackets was found in the book, "History of Cowley County, Kansas, Vol. I - The Beginning", by Richard Kay Wortman & Mary Ann Wortman: The Arkansas City Historical Society in cooperation with the Cowley County Historical Society & the Cherokee Strip Land Rush Museum, Gilliland Printing, Arkansas City, KS, 1996 ------: BROWN, Mary A.; born 11 Aug 1800 [or 15 Aug 1803] in England [or Queens Co., Ireland], died 20 Aug 1905 [Wichita, KS], buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, [married in 1837 to William (dec.), 13 children who are dec.], left son John W[illiam]
I was given information about a 3rd great grandmother who is supposed to be buried in Winfield KS. She was born 16 Aug 1807 in Ireland and died 16 Aug 1909 (on her 102nd birthday) in or near Winfield Kansas. She is not listed on Find a Grave.

She was married to William Brown who died in 1864 and may have remarried someone named Bone???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I descend from Indiana Goatley Bonar's older brother, Thomas. She descends from the second wife of James. I'm as follows: John (Am.

I've bought some identifiable photographs from a local antique store and, in an effort to return them to their rightful owners, am looking for descendants or anyone researching the families.

I have a photograph of a family that I am 95% certain is the family of Andrew & Rosetta Jacobson of Arkansas City, Cowley County, Kansas, from the Cornish Photography Studio. Identifying information includes the names and ages of the children in the photograph: Doris (11 yrs. 8 mo.), Alan (5 yrs. 10 mo.), Helen Frances (2 yrs. 10 mo.), and Victor George (8 mo. old). It is in remarkable condition and I would love to scan it and email it (or I can send you the original - I only ask that you pitch the $3 I paid for it and maybe $1 to pack it and send it).

It's a beautiful photograph, mounted on a folding mat board. Msg me if interested.

[Cross-posting by surname.]

Ellen:

What a wonderful idea! I probably would never have thought of contacting the local people who made the grave stones. Although I'm unsure as to whether or not my ancestors were provided with grave markers, one would certainly hope so . . . I've found in some cases where a burial had occurred, the family was unable to afford a permanent headstone. In places that involved extreme weather (most of America at some time of the year) the hand made wooden markers didn't last long . . .

I'll keep your suggestion in mind for future use as well.

Thank you for your time and sharing the "tip".

In gratitude,

Leslie

Dear Don:

Thank you for the information. I can only hope that my inquiry will meet with the same degree of success as yours did!!!

I got side tracked yesterday but will see to this today. I don't know how to explain it exactly, but I feel such a strong bond with all of my ancestors that, until I began working on my family tree, were mostly unknown or all but forgotten. It's become my "job" to record as much of our family history as possible as it had never been put on paper by anyone in my immediate family before.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to assist me in this matter.

Blessings.

Leslie (AZ)
