"ARTHUR AND JESSIE VAN WEY: Arthur Van Wey was born in Illinois, Dec. 21, 1868 (died 1953), son of Abram and Rebecca (Holland) Van Wey. The parents were natives of Ohio. In 1884, they moved to Comanche County and settled on government land 4 miles east of Protection before the county was organized. Abram farmed until his death, Sept 20, 1893.
Arthur married Jessie Amy, daughter of Walter L. and Viola (Nail) Stewart, Nov. 29, 1889. She was born in Pa. Dec. 1, 1873 (died 1955) and came to Kansas with her parents in 1880.
Arthur and Jessie had three sons, Elmer (1893-1916), Irtle (1894-1965) and Henry (1898-1962). The family were members of the Baptist Church and Arthur served as deacon for years. They farmed and lived at Protection the rest of their lives. Irtle marrled Averil Thornhill of Protection. Their sons are: Richard, Henry and Bentley. Henry married Meryle Lattimore are their children are: Marjorie, Wayne, Joyce and Billy. Irtle and Henry lived south of Protection and their children attended Bluff Creek School. They moved from Protection in the middle 30's. Averil and Meryle and some of their family lived in Wichita."
