From Lucy (Beaty) Charlton to Huldah (Beaty) Taylor - 10/09/1903

Keota, Iowa
Oct 9, 1903

Dear Sister & family:

We have got home from our trip in the east. We had such a nice time. Seen the old house we was born in. Seen so many of our cousins. Was in PA (Pennsylvania) and seen the house that Will was born in.

Now you must come back right away. I can hardly wait to see you and tell you all about it now, Hulda. You know it is your turn to come. We will look for you and Ed, too. Seen Ann. Was at Washington, D.C.. Was in the White House. I can't write any more this time but expect to see you before long.

Your sister, Lucy

Editors Notes: The "Will" referred to above was Lucy's husband: Will Charlton.

Note that Lucy spelled Hulda's name without an "h" on the end. Hulda's mother spelled it with an "h" on the end, but Hulda's nephew actually transcribed the letter and I think he misspelled it.

Lucy died approximately two years after writing this letter, in 1905, and is buried with Will Charlton in Keota Cemetery. Will Charlton remarried after Lucy's death, but we don't yet know the identity of this second wife.
