Okay, this is a long shot.

I am the great-great grandson of a Clara Housh who resided in Fort Scott, Kansas in the late 1890's.

Allow me to explain. Clara Housh married a Thomas Campbell (my great-great grandfather) in Fort Scott, Kansas in Oct 1895. On the marriage license copy that I have, it states her name as being Clarissa Housh.

Approximately at this time, Thomas Campbell was living at the National Hotel on 206 n. National Ave. This was run under the propreitor - Joshua Housh.

Thomas Campbell and Clara Housh had one daughter, named Mayme Campbell (my great-grandmother). Both Clara and Thomas Campbell divorced around 1899/1900 in Springfield, Missouri.

I have some documents that state that Clara Housh was born in Missouri, and shortly after her divorce from Thomas Campbell, she was living in Aurora, Missouri.

I'm not sure what the details were, but apparently Thomas Campbell got custody of their daughter - Mayme.

Other than what is stated above, I know nothing else. Does anyone possibly know who this Clara Housh could be? On this ancestry site, I have found a slew of Housh's on census records. Names like, Mattie, Joshua(as mentioned above), Clara (as mentioned above), and Golda.

However, were they all related???????

Whatever happened to Clara Housh after her divorce from Thomas Campbell?????

Thanks,

Brad
James and Robert are buried in Evergreen Cemetery just south of Ft. Scott on the old highway.

They are buried in section 9 row 11 and per the cemetery book. It appears that they share a gravestone.

James Aug 11, 1830 - Nov 1, 1898

Robert Feb 27, 1828 - Feb 16, 1892

There are several other McCord's in the cemetery, but they aren't buried right with James and Robert. Most are much younger. The only McCords of their era are Jennie who died June 8, 1892 lot 57 section 6 (no stone) and TJ who was born in 1867 and died in 1930 row 6 section 14.

I don't live in that area so I can't do an obit lookup any time soon. You might try the Old Fort Genealogical Society. They might do a lookup. I have not asked them to do research, but I have used the library. Contact information can be found at:

http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/society/ftscott/index.html

The 1920 Census shows Conrad (born Germany) and Carrie (born Ohio) Eiler with sons Earl (21), Carl (17), Theodore (14) and George (14). They are living in Freedom Township , which is in the northern part of the county near Fulton.

The 1910 Census also shows a son Dan (3 years older than Earl).

I also found the family in the 1905 and 1915 state census.

I did not find them in the records before 1905 or after 1920.In 1930, the only Eiler's I find in Bourbon County are Earl (born 1922) and David (born 1924). They were living with the Allison family in Marmaton Township.

I did not find the name "Eiler" in any of the cemetery books that i have. However, I don't have books for that part of the county.

Looking for information on anyone with the last name Eiler who lived in Bourbon county starting around the 1880's It could be earlier, but if so not by much. The only name I have for sure is Theodore A Eiler, he would have been born there in 1907. He had a twin and a lot of siblings whose names I don't know. His father's name might have been Conrad. I know some of them are buried out there because I went there and saw the graves when I was little. But I don't remember exactly where they were. That's all I know.

Sorry it's not much information to go on. Any help will be appreciated :)

If anybody is still interested in Steadman Aldis and his wife Ethel Fry Aldis, let me know- they were my grandparents, and lived for many years after their retirement in Fort Scott, Kansas with their three physician children Drs. John, Henry, and William Aldis. Henry Aldis was my father. Steadman and Ethel Aldis's work in India was truly revolutionary. In the early 1900's they were doing integrated community development of a kind that many 'development experts' today are just beginning to understand. It was the wonderful stories of their life and work in India which set me on a path to work with WHO in India, as well as many other countries in Asia and Africa.

Could Sarah Carnes have been married to O'Brien first? I did find a Sarah O'Brien on the 1880 Census of Chilliothe, Ross, Ohio who was a widow with 1 child (Mary - age 2)- this Sarah was born about 1848 according to the census -then Sarah was supposed to have married Solomon Leffler in 1886 - cannot find any of them on the 1900 census
I would be interested in seeing the Leffler pictures since my line is Leffler

THOMASON

I have unconfirmed information that states after the Civil War, my William Thomason and some of his children had "differences of opinion". William uprooted his family from Benton Co. AR and moved to Fort Scott, KS, leaving behind his homestead of many years and some of his sons. Part of his family served in the Confederacy, several others served with the Union. I have not been able to find any information regarding William Thomason or his wife Harriet Pauline Bingham Thomason actually living in Fort Scott. I found "Hattie" living with one of the sons by 1880. No sign of William by that time. According to the census records William was born in TN. William's son Milton M was my great grandfather. Milton's son Fred was my grandfather. I would appreciate any leads to this Wm. Thomason, burial, death, cemetery records. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Karen

I do not have a death date for either of these people. Gertrude is my aunt. Both were born and have extensive family ties to Bourbon County. From my research I do not believe they died in the County. I hope their obituaries may have been placed in the Tribure anyway. They likely died in the late 50' or early 60's. They may be in the OFGS Obit Index.
Thank you, Jim Moore

Oscar Morse and his mother, Almira Wade Morse, Ft Scott

I'm seeking information about the later life, and death, of both these people. They were born in Ontario Canada. I think they came to Kansas following Almira's sister, Nancy Wade Detwiler, in whose household Oscar was found in 1880 census, Wamego, Pottowatomie County Kansas.

In 1900 census,I found mother and son in Ft. Scott, Bourbon County, Kansas 1614 Main Street.
Almira is born in Canada, 78 yrars old, widowed, year of immigration: 1883.
Oscar is 53. Single, a bookkeeper. He is naturalized citizen, came to U S 1877. He owns his home free of a mortgage. City directories showed that he worked as a postal worker, and then as a bookkeeper at Fort Scott Wholesale Grocery Company. In 1902-3 he lives at 1614 Main Street with his mother.

I don't yet know when Almira died, but about 1909 Oscar married Margaret Samuels. They continue to live in Ft Scott up through 1920 when I found them on South Jordon Street.

Does anyone know a date for Almira's death, or anything further about Oscar and his late-in-life wife Margaret?

Could someone look up a marriage for me please in Fort Scott,Bourbon County Kansas?
The girls name was Elsie Hill she was born Feb. 1878. The census has her, and a living child but does not show any husband. Married 3 yrs., marriage would have been sometime during years 1896-1898.
Would like to know the name of the husband and child. Also if there happens to be a divorce would like to know if you could find it. It would have happened obviously sometime after the 1900 census.
I am inclined to think there was a census error, she was a widow that lost child as well. Or she was there taking care of her ill parents, or there because she was ill and they were taking care of her until she got better. Many possibles, but the one thing I need to find is the name of husband. If possible name of child.

1900 KANSAS BOURBON 3-WD FORT SCOTT
Series: T623 Roll: 471 Page: 58
[It looks like STILL]
HILL DAVID 57 Apr 1843 M W IN OH OH m. 36 yrs
Eliza 58 Sep 1841 F W OH OH OH m. 36 yrs 6 ch 5 liv
Allard son 18 Aug 1881 M W NE IN OH single
STARK ELSIE dau 22 Feb? 1878 F W NE IN OH m.3 yrs 1 ch 1 liv

Thank you for the aid.
