Iowa Special Census

I have received work that the Father of George (b.PA) and Albert (b IA) died in Iowa, sometime late 1850s. Was a special census done in Iowa during 1850s? ( I do not know a county.)

Also, when did Iowa start keeping records of births, deaths, and marriages.

Any help will be appreciated.
