Hi all:
This may be old hat for a lot of people, but I just discovered today that the 1925 Iowa Census has Parents' names, including Mother's maiden! This is for everyone in the census - including heads of households and spouses and servants and boarders!
This should be exciting news for those who have reached a brick wall in Iowa before 1925.
I don't know yet how many other times Iowa asked for this little snippet of information, but it is a goldmine if you have someone in Iowa in 1925.
Don't neglect looking for extended family for people who passed through Iowa. That is what happened to me. My family was into Iowa in 1856 and my branch left in 1870 to go to Kansas. For many years, I simply ignored our Iowa relatives. I was just filling in holes for extended family "left" back in Iowa, when I stumbled across this little goldmine. This census firms up the identity of my 2xg grandmother.
If you have anyone here, be advised that the link from Ancestry's "recap page" to the actual image is the first page for the people listed. Click on the "next image" to see the next page, which lists the same people with parents' names listed.
My apologies if you already knew about this.
