A friend who buys and sells collectibles, etc. purchased a box of photographs many of which are Mt. Ayr photographers and many of which have names. I can't list them all here but many are the above surnames. I will be glad to do a scan of any, or answer questions. What he will want for one I do not know, but it won't be a lot, I am sure. I may delay in a reply because I am going to the FGS conference in Davenport this week. Joyce in West Des Moines, Iowa.

While scanning obits fron 1892, I ran across an article about a baby that was left on some people's doorstep. The county adopted this baby and named him Bay Ringgold. Does anyone have any information on this? I will e-mail the story to anyone that requests it. We plan on putting it on the website sometime soon.

Rick

Can I find a kind volunteer that would go to the Ringgold County Court House and do a lookup for my deceased grandfather's birth certificate. If it is possible to obtain an unofficial copy for a small cost (under $10) and mail it to me postage paid with a return address so I can reimburse you your expense, I would appreciate it. If not able to obtain a copy, could you copy the information on it and e-mail it to me. Please reply to legionpdx@yahoo.com and I will supply the needed information for the lookup. Thank you in advance.

In search of the children of Christian Mosier and Annie Wenger Mosier. They came to American from Alsace, FR via ship to New York with sons Christopher aka: Christian, Benedict aka: Ben (sometimes found as Benjamin due to Ben being short for that). They settled in Holmes Co., Iowa and had another 4 children; Barbara, Anna, Abraham and Isaac. The then moved to Lee Co. Iowa where I believe father Christian died. Then the remaining family settled in Ringgold County, Iowa. These children married people with the following surnames; Saltzman, Beebe, Gleason, Mackey and Slaughter.

My line is Ben/Benedict Mosier. He moved from Iowa to Hickory Co., Missouri where he married Mary Ann List in 1859.
Am looking for any and all information regarding William Jackson Grace who was born in 1873 and died in Clearfield, Ringgold County, IA in 1950. He was the son of Andrew Jackson Grace and Anne E. Russell and was born in either Scott Co. or Mahaska Co., IA, depending on the month he was born. He must have lived in the county for many years as his address was Clearfield in 1913 when his father died. I would appreciate hearing from any with any news no matter how small. Was he married? Did he have family? Anything would help me. Thank you so much.

Rev. Peter Andrews, Henry Andrews

This is a query on the family of Rev. Peter Andrews who resided in Mt. Ayr, Ringgold, IA, 1860 - 1889. He emigrated from Nova Scotia, Canada in 1858 with his daughters, Annie, Elisabeth and son Henry C. after his wife Carolyn Grant died.
He then married Elisabeth G. Walter in 1860 and had two more daughters, Caroline, Mary and son Frank. My friend has the family bible of his first son Henry Andrews and would like to return it to the family. Henry was b. 1846, married Mary F. Campbell in 1871 and had two sons, Kenneth R. and Ralph F. They moved to Kearney, Buffalo Cty., NE where Henry worked as a lawyer. His son Kenneth worked as a Real Estate Agent and in 1920 was the Mayor of Kearney. Son Ralph died young in 1896. Henry died in 1928; Mary died in 1921 and Kenneth died in 1953 in CA. They all are buried in Kearney, NE. It doesn't look as if the two sons had heirs. I would appreciate any advice or help finding any members of this family. Thank you.

Looking for real William son of Andrew Jackson Houdeshell

I have been working on the Houdeshell line and I ran across a source that had William Houdeshell/Howdeshell/Houdyshell/Howdyshell/Houdesheldt, etc. son of Andrew Jackson Houdeshell, etc married to both an America and a Julia, and had me wondering if he had been married twice. However....I have found William and Julia in the 1870, 1880, 1900 census AND William and America in 1885, 1900 & 1910. They have different children in both lists. The 1910 census listed America and William as having been married since 1866 and Julia and William had been married since 1863. Both women were alive and well and living with their respective Williams in the mid 1880's and in 1900. The William who married Julia (whose last name is given variously as Daugherty and Ireland) gave his birthplace as OH in every census I saw including a 1910 census where a widowed William was living with his and Julia's son George. All the censuses were in Appanoose Co., IA. The William who married America (whose last name has been given as Courtier and Coacher) was listed as being born in IN in 1885, 1900, & 1910 censuses and these censuses were in Ringgold Co., IA. America said in one census that she had had 10 children, 5 of whom were still living in 1910 and Julia in 1900 said she had had 6. William and Julia had Napoleon, William Sherman, Halsey/Halse, Ida, George and Anna. William and America had Emma, William Martin, James, Eva, Charles & Roy O. and possibly Kate, Josephine and Mary.) So, I would say there were beyond doubt, two separate Williams, married to two separate women. However, which William, married to which woman is the son of Andrew Jackson Houdeshell I have NO idea. Anyone who DOES have good knowledge of whos son which William was, please let me know. Obviously one of these is not Andrew Jackson Houdeshell Wm.

Looking for information on the Debolt family from Ringgold. I have a photo of a "Gib Debolt and wife". I found a Gibson Debolt buried at the Plattee River Cemetery, along with: Elizabeth, James, Omar, Stinson and an infant. My ggrandmother, Callie Bell Williamson married William Debolt, Sept of 1898, Benton, Ringgold. They later divorced, but had 3 children, Clifford, Ethel and Florence Mae(Redding, Ringgold). Callie Bell's parents were Richard Edward and Matilda Nolan(Caldwell)Williamson. Matilda was the daughter of Barton and Nancy Koons Caldwell, they were buried in Caledonia, Iowa. Would like information on were they maybe buried. Thank you.

I am seeking information on Harriet, Margaret, and Mary MARIETTA - daughters of Uriah MARIETTA. All three were born in Fayette or Somerset Counties, Pennsylvania. Harriet was born about 1833, Margaret about 1839, and Mary about 1843. In 1857 the family left Pennsylvania for Iowa, settling initially in Clarke County. The three sisters appear in the Clarke County 1860 census, and that's the last I've found on them so far. The family later moved to adjacent Warren County, but the sisters do not appear in the 1870 census. Marriage, death, and cemetery records of both Clarke and Warren counties have been searched without success as yet. Does anyone have any information on what became of any these three young women?

Michael O'Grady married Catherine Scott c 1856 in Ontario. They had 10 children and then disappear from all Canadian records. With the new 1880 census search I have found they went to Ringgold county in Iowa. There are some of these children listed in the 1926 will of their unmarried uncle Timothy O'Grady who stayed in Ontario. Here is a list of the children and their birth dates if known. The names of who they married are because they were listed as a Mrs. in Timothy's will.

Bridget (Mrs. Libbie Young?) 1857 Maryborough twp -
Catherine (Mrs. Libbie Young?) 1858 Maryborough twp -
Mary Ann Mar 24 1860 Maryborough twp - married Mr. Cahill
John Aug 22 1862 Maryborough twp -
James Dec 25th 1864 Maryborough twp -
Michael 1866 Maryborough twp -
Margaret Jun 12 1869 Maryborough twp - married Mr. Fisher
Mary Teresa Mar 2 1872 Maryborough twp - she died before 1880 as she is not in that census.
Stephen Dec 15 1873 Maryborough twp -
Joseph Patrick Dec 2 1876 Maryborough twp -

I have the location in Ireland where Michael and his brothers and Parents emigrated from.
I am looking for any information on Cecil (Simpson) Greenlee, who was living in Mt. Ayr (according to the SSDI) when she died in September 1984. I am especially interested in finding her death record and burial place. I'm not sure if she actually died in Ringgold County. This is all the information I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Oakland Cemetery near Shannon City

Last fall I visited the Oakland Cemetery near Shannon City, south of Creston. I found the gravesite of my great grandfather, David McKelvey there. He had a GAR marker next to his headstone. I am interested in contacting the Oakland caretaker, or anyone else that might have information about the Civil War records of veterans buried at Oakland.

Gene McKelvey
