i am looking for any informaiton on a civil war veteran named McDonad Fitch, he was born in Ind. around 1840, he died at Mt. Ayr, IA, our local paper says that he may be brought back to Granite Falls for burial. Died Oct 5th, 1883.Nothing else was reported on his burial.

I am trying to make sure all the veterans graves in Yellow Medicine County are marked. There is nothing listed for the local cemetery, so I am thinking that he was just buried there. If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.

[McDonad?] FITCH, 1840 IN > 1883 IA

Is that first name correct? I don't find any matches for McD* (*=wildcard) Fitch in ANY database (census, etc.).

"... our local paper says that he may be brought back to Granite Falls for burial. ..."

What location are you referring to when you say "our local paper"? Where is Granite Falls countyy, state)?

"I am trying to make sure all the veterans graves in Yellow Medicine County are marked ..."

Where is Yellow Medicine County (state)?

Does the newspaper item you have indicate under which state he served, his company/regiment, etc.?

McDoanld Fitch died at Mt. Agr Iowa Monday Oct 5th. Mr. Fitch has long been a resident of GF, and at the time of his death sojourning in other climates with the end in view of recovering from the consumption with which disease he had long been a suffer.
Mr. Fitch was a member of the Masonic order and it was thought at the news of his death that his remains would be brought back to GF for burial, but at the present writing it has not been done. And it is probable now that it will not be. Mr. Fitch was once connected with the newspaper business of the place and at one time was a postmaster.

I believe the person you're researching is McConnel FITCH. See Civil War Pension card attached to this message.

The date of death is not entered on his pension card. The 1878 date is the date on which he filed a claim that he was an invalid.

Do you already have McConnel with his wife Mary and daughter in 1880 census?
