While looking for information on a Bessie Pickley from Iowa, I wrote for the social security application of a Bessie BENTON born in the same month and year (Jan 1889). It wasn't who I was looking for, but thought this may be of use to someone doing Poweshiek research:

Bessie Elizabeth Benton (married name)
Born Jan 19, 1889 in Grinnell, Poweshiek Co, IA
Father was Edwin Franklyn Davenport, mother was Julia Cathryn Butrum
Living at 1421 Elm St., Grinnell, IA
Working at Hildebrand Shoe Co. in Grinnell
Looks like the application was filled out July 1, 1937, and another blurry entry looks like it says "48", which would be her age if that date is right.
Social security number they gave her was 483-09-8367

No first name of her husband was mentioned.

This person is no relation to me what so ever. Hopes this helps someone else though!
