WEST LIBERTY, Iowa - Evelyn D. MacGowan, 88, died Monday April 4, 2005, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
The Rev. Al Zimmerman will officiate services. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty.
Memorials may be made to the Simpson Memorial Home, First Church United or West Liberty Rescue Unit.
She was born Sept. 22, 1916, in Springdale, the daughter of LaFayette Kirts and Efra Madsen Maxson. She graduated from West Liberty High School in 1936. She married Bruce MacGowan August 10, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
They had farmed near Montezuma for one year and later in the West Liberty area for many years.
She also had been employed at Carr's Lunch Car, Dairy Queen, Bowling Alley, Jim's Foodland and for Doctors Carey, Carey and Larson retiring in 1985.
She was a member of the First Church United in West Liberty. She loved horse races, going to the gambling boats and traveling.
Survivors include two sons: Robert and wife Patricia MacGowan of Port Byron, Ill. and Ronald MacGowan of Moline. One daughter, Barbara and husband Wayne Roby of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Vern and wife Betty Maxson of Moline, Ill.; three sisters-in-law, Ruth MacGowan, Joyce Steen and Dorothy Maxson; nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother Harvey and a grandson Gary Roby.
WEST LIBERTY, Iowa -- Howard L. MacGowan, 79, West Liberty, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, after a short illness.
Services at West Liberty United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty.
Visitation at the Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty. Memorials may be made to the West Liberty Rescue Unit.
Mr. MacGowan was born on July 5, 1922, in West Liberty, the son of Harold and Ida Mae Hipple MacGowan. He married Marilyn Ferguson on Feb. 20, 1955. She preceded him in death in 1992. He later married Ruby Waters on June 7, 1997.
He graduated from West Liberty High School.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
He was a farmer all his life in the West Liberty area.
He was a member of the Mansell Phillips American Legion Post No. 509, Masonic Lodge, Order or Amaranth, Muscatine Moose Lodge and the Maid Rite Coffee Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby of West Liberty; a son, Lester MacGowan and his wife, Shelly, of Wilton; a daughter, Stephanie Wieland and her husband, Randy, of Riverside; two sisters, Joyce Steen of West Liberty and Catherine Hall of Lone Tree; stepchildren, Cindy Huff and her husband, Rick, of Iowa City and Roger Waters and his wife, Georgie, of Round Rock, Texas; five grandchildren, Ashley, Peggy, Michael, Jacob and Ronnie; a step-grandchild, Christy Meyer; and a step-great-grandchild, Quintin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; two sisters, Audrey and June; and two brothers, Bruce and Glen.
WEST LIBERTY, Iowa -- Jose Victor Machado, 53, West Liberty, died suddenly Monday, May 23, 2005, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine.
Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
He was born July 28, 1951, in Mexico, the son of Pedro and Librada Martinez Machado. He was married to Maria Rosario Chavarria.
He had been employed with Tyson Foods, Columbus Junction, for several years.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Graciela, Alma, Maria, Maricela and Veronica; two sons, Jose Jr. and Manuel; three sisters, Rosa, Rosario and Concesio; and a brother, Antonio.
