Dennis Bohrofen, 77, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a long illness.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Keota. The Powell Funeral Home of Wellman is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born Sept. 23, 1923, in Keota, the son of Alva and Cleo Clubb Bohrofen. He married Evelyn Baird on Jan. 21, 1945, in Keota.
He graduated from Keota High School in 1941. He attended the Merchant Marine Academy in San Matio, Calif., and was a veteran of World War II.
He farmed and lived in the Keota community.
He was Director of Transportation for the Keota Community School District for 30 years, retiring and moving to Wellman in 1995. He lived at the Parkview Manor in Wellman since Sept. 16, 2000.
He was a former member of the Elks Lodge, and was chairman of the Keota Centennial Celebration that took several years of planning.
In his free time he enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Wellman; a son, Monte Bohrofen and his wife, Judy of Clive; a daughter, Tracy Bohrofen and her husband, Kent, Behrens of Omaha, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Lloyd L. Bonnesen, 73, of Wapello, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The Rev. Patrick Lumaden will officiate.
Visitation will be at the Lunning Chapel with the Rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Mercy Iowa City Hospice.
He was born April 10, 1927, in Bayard, the son of William Andrew and Blanch Kraft Bonnesen. He married Arlene Christensen, July 5, 1947, in Fort Dodge.
He worked 15 years with U.S. Gypsum Co., then 15 years with H. J. Heinz and worked as a home contractor for several years.
He was a member of Sts. John and Paul Church in Burlington, Elks and Knights of Columbus.
He attended Bayard and Collender Grade School and graduated from Otho High School.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Wapello; two sons, Keith Bonnesen and his wife, Vicky and Joseph Bonnesen and his wife, Carol, all of Wapello; a daughter, Catherine Michael Walker of Wilton; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Swertfager of Whittier, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Jon Joseph Bonnesen.
