Hello Peggy,
This is my first reply back from anyone with information regarding Matilda. I would appreciate any information as I am building a pictorial history of the Anderson family. Matilda's sister, Ida Sofia Anderson Knipfer was my grandmother. I never received any information about Grandma Ida's family from anyone on the Knipfer side. Hence my search on Rootsweb. My email address is shugatj2@comcast.net I would dearly love pictures and information to put into my history book. I have pictures of John Fingal Anderson, one picture of their sister Louisa and my Grandmother to share if you would like them. John Fingal was Matilda's brother. His twin sister was named Selma. Contact me at my email, I can send and receive from there. I am so excited that you wrote... Blessings, joey

I'd be interested in any info you could share on the Chesher family in Rock Rapids/Lyon County, beginning with Ervin J/Margaret E and working back from there. I believe that the Sheridan family is also related, but am vague about the details. Thanks.

I'd be very interested in seeing this article. The pilot mentioned was Donald Leland John Chesher, and he was indeed from Rock Rapids, Iowa. This story was one of several passed down as anecdotal history in his family, most of which revolved around his flying career.

I am looking for information, obits and the like for John and Matilda Anderson Brandt. They lived in Larchwood, Iowa around 1893, that being the year that Matilda's sister Ida Anderson was married. Ida was my grandmother and any information that she had on her siblings who came from Sweden burned in a house fire, except for her obituary saying that she had a brother John Fingal Anderson who was from Sioux Falls. Thanks for any help.

She was first married to Ross Earl Whipkey. I believe he may have died in World War I. The second one is for Myrtle Whipkey Titus. She is buried in Riverview Cemetery, Rock Rapids, born 1879 and died 1949. Sorry, I don't have exact date; only the date from the cemetery record. I would like to discuss fees with anyone willing to do these lookups for me. kimdavenport@mchsi.com Thank you for your help.

Querant wrote, "... John William Meyer born 31 Oct. 1891 in Doon. ... son of Peter H. Meyer and Bertha Klitzke. His wife's name was Lena... [John and Lena] had a daughter Margaret born in 1918, ... help me find out a marriage date and any info about who Lena is (i.e. last name, parents, birth, etc.) ..."

Do you have your grandmother's complete birth date? If so, and if she is deceased and appears in the Social Security Death Index, you can write to the SSA for a copy of her SS5 application for social security. This document will give both parents' full names (including maiden surname for mother).

In the meantime, in the 1930 census, John W. MEYER and Lena's household includes a sister-in-law, Anna J. Apple, single, born PA, parent born GER. This suggests that Lena's maiden name might be Apple (or some spelling variant thereof). (Source: 1930 United States Federal Census > Iowa > Lyon > Doon > District 7, sheet 7A)

Going back to the 1925 IA State Census, Lena Meyer's parents are listed as John Appel [born GER, deceased] and Christina Marquart (born GER, deceased), who were married in PA.
Your best bet would be to contact County Clerk of Records at the Lyon County Court House. It is located in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Unfortunately, I've recently switched to a new computer and don't have everything transferred to this new one, or I'd give you the address. The Library is located in Rock Rapids, as well. They might have some records there that might tell you where he is buried, etc.

Best Wishes on your search.

Rock Rapids is the county house where a marriage license would be recorded, but don't think those were needed during that time period, but I could be wrong about that. The local library might have a film of those. Some counties were a bit slow getting around to requiring a license. However, Catholic marriage records would need to be gotten from the church or diocese. You'd need someone more knowledgeable than me, on how to go about getting those from the church. As far as I know, the Catholic Church does not post marriages online, anywhere. mjb

My husband & I visited Rock Rapids. Our trip to the library was very fruitful. City clerks office and cemetery records not at all helpful. They claim not to have any cemetery records. Can't believe the state of IA would allow a cemetery without records. Though I did find the graves, one is a mystery. The police were kind and we enjoyed a lovely meal in the old theater.

Webber, Mrs. Josephine Family Of--Larchwood, IA

I was in a flea market in Sioux Falls and for a very nominal amount I bought this entire box of photos, old scrapbook album pages. It was a "gold mine" of information. I spotted that right away. I love rescuing these types of items at antique/flea markets and have had much success in the past reuniting the treasures with present day family members.
This box of STUFF are all from the same family-that is obvious from the content. As you would suspect, some of the old photos are not identified-but many of them are!! It appears that these items belonged to the family of Dr. Wm. Webber (who lived at Sioux Falls, S.D.) I am not sure when he died but I do know he was alive to celebrate his 91st birthday in 1958. There are great snapshots of him with his family members at that time in his life.

I have done some research online. I would love to get this box of treasures back to the correct family. If you are family member and are interested, please contact me and we can discuss the nature of returning them to you. I will gladly sell it to the right family member for what I paid for it plus postage.

The mother of Dr. Wm. Webber was Mrs. Josephine Webber. Her obit items from the local newspaper are pasted in the album along with wonderful photos of her, her home and other family members---Larchwood, IA.

Larchwood is in Lyon County...not very far from Sioux Falls. Hopefully the treasures I rescued will bring JOY to a family researcher today!!

Larchwood Woman
Who Was On Gold
Rush Dies; Age 93

Larchwood, Ia., Feb. 21. --- Mrs. Josephine Webber, who at the age of 8 went with her parents to California in a covered wagon in the gold rush of 1849, is dead at the age of 93. She died Tuesday and funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday in the Community church here, with the Rev. T. H.
Harding officiating.

Mrs. Webber came to Larchwood in 1889. She grew wonderful flowers in her garden and visitors from long distances were known to have visited her place on account of it's beauty. Mrs. Webber recalled her experiences in the gold rush vividly.

She is survived by two sons, two daughters, 18 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren.

BURIED AT LARCHWOOD
Larchwood, Ia., Feb. 26. --- Glowing tributes to Josephine Webber, pioneer here, for her work with flowers in her garden, were paid at funeral services held Friday in the Community church. She had a garden which attracted interest for miles around.

Mrs. Webber, 93 years old, had resided here since 1889. She was born in Vicksburg, Miss., and when 8 years old went with her parents on the gold rush to California in a covered wagon.

She is survived by two sons: William, Sioux Falls, and Leon, Seattle; two daughters, Clara E. Holzer, Sioux Falls, and Josie E. Lundquist, Larchwood; and an 85 year old brother at Matton, Ill., and 18 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

~source: Old newspaper clippings found in a Webber scrapbook purchased in a flea market store, Sioux Falls,S.D.
~Note: The 1900 Census lists this Josephine, widowed, Larchwood, IA...with three of her children in the household. In 1900 Census she stated that her birth mo/year was March 1841.

Hi - Would anybody know how I could find a marriage record or announcement from mid-May, 1902 in Doon?

WorldVitalRecords.com has temporary free access to some Iowa newspapers. A Waterloo article said that W. J. (Will/William) Murphy was traveling to Doon to marry a Ms. "Kirsch", and then they would move to Oregon where he got a job with a mining company.

The bride was Josephine/Josie Kirch, daughter of Engelbert and Katherine/Katie (Rosemeyer) Kirch.

So far, I haven't been able to find Iowa marriage records online for this time period...would anybody be able to point me in the right direction to any further info? I'd guess it would have been in a Catholic church.

Thanks for any leads!

Kaye --

I've sent an email to my grandfather to see if you can still purchase a Centennial book (he helped out with it).

Also -- my grandmother is Phyllis Frembgen, born to John Edward Frembgen and Mary McGuire. John was born to John M Frembgen and Bridgette Solon. Do you have any information on them?

Thanks

Is there anyone who can help with a lookup in the Death
Records for me? I am looking for information on a Karl HASSE
b. 4 APR 1827 ,d. 1 SEP 1901. I found a Karl HASSE listed in
the Quaker Cemetery,Dale Township, George, Iowa. I need to
verify if it is my great great grandfather. He came to Iowa in
1893 from Germany with three sons,Herman,Frederick (AKA Fritz)
and Wilhelm. I found them in the 1895 census in Dale,Lyon,Iowa. Thank you.

I'm looking for information on John William Meyer born 31 Oct. 1891 in Doon. He was the son of Peter H. Meyer and Bertha Klitzke. His wife's name was Lena... I have been unable to find a last name to her. They had a daughter Margaret born in 1918, She was my grandmother. If anyone would could help me find out a marriage date and any info about who Lena is (i.e. last name, parents, birth, etc.) I would greatly appreciate it.
