Searching for info on the family of Enos S. Powell (1831-1904) and wife Esther Powell (1838-1891). Son Fredrick Powell (b. 1878) married Josie Woods in 1902 in Lucas Co. Josie (1879-1914) is the d/o Andrew A. Woods and Lucetta J. Mossbarger Woods.
Fredrick and Josie Powell lived in Des Moines, Polk Co, IA and had five children: Donald, Walter, Bernard, Bessie, and Harry. After Josie's death in 1914, the children were placed in the Soldier's Orphan's Home in Des Moines, per 1915 Iowa Census.
Why were the children placed in the Home instead of going to live with relatives? What happened to the children after they left the Home? Was Josie's death suspicious, as hinted at by a family researcher? What happened to Fredrick Powell?
