Iowa doesn't have a death index nor do they publish death dates. Some counties recorded deaths as early as 1880 but it wasn't mandated until 1920.

You can do a Google search for Jones County Iowa Cemeteries and look for them in the inventoried cemeteries.

The Monticello newspapers are free and online, http://monticello.advantage-preservation.com/ issues 1865 through 2013.

Other Jones County newspapers are at http://jonescounty.advantage-preservation.com/ from 1856 thru 2011.

You have to go in person to view death records at the Recorder's office (another one of Iowa's "wonky" rules, http://iowajones.org/research/resources.htm.

There is a list of Jones County researchers at http://iowajones.org/research/resources.htm.

The Iowa Genealogical Society will do research for you for a fee, http://iowajones.org/research/resources.htm. Successful Searching!
