I'm interested in learning more about my grandparents, Leona (BUZICK) and H. Bixler BAKER who were married in Webster City, Iowa on 23 December 1915. The BUZICK family lived in Blairsburg and the BAKER's were from Williams, Hamilton Co., Iowa. Leona was the eldest daughter of Arthur J. and Lulu (COLEMAN) HYATT. Arthur and Lulu had nine children: Claude, William, Leona, Ethel, Ralph, Callie, George (died as an infant), Kenneth, and Mary.

The following wedding announcement appeared in the paper.

BUZICK - BAKER

Today at noon will occur the marriage of Miss Leona Mae Buzick to Mr. Bixler Baker at the home of the bride’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Hyatt at Webster City. Rev. Staples of the Baptist church will officiate.

Only relatives of the bride and groom will witness the ceremony.
The bride will wear a traveling suite of brown, while the groom will be attired in the conventional black.
The bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Buzick of Liberty Center. She is a splendid young lady of unusual musical talent and has taught music in this vicinity the past year and will be greatly missed by her many scholars.

The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Baker of Belle Plaine, Minn., formerly residents here, and is an ambitious and bustling young farmer.

Mr. and Mrs. Baker will remain in Webster City until Saturday when they will visit at the A.J. Buzick home for a few days, after which they will take a wedding trip to Stanwood to visit the former’s brother. In February they will go to Belle Plaine where they will reside on the groom’s father’s farm.

The Enterprise joins with their many friends in wishing them a long and happy married life.

A large number attended the bridal shower at the A.J. Buzick home last Tuesday for their eldest daughter, Miss Leona. A delicious dinner was spread at two large tables, the first being the bride-to-be’s table, she was seated at one end and the groom-to-be at the other, the rest being girlfriends with a few exceptions. In the center was a pure white cake with the name "Leona" in delicate pink. Shortly after dinner to the strains of a wedding march played on the piano by Mrs. Wm. Kennedy, the mock wedding party descended the stairs and entered the parlor. Miss Minnie Cobie was flower girl the basket being a cheese box covered filled with straw which they scattered along the bridal path. Mrs. Zelpha Prescott was ring bearer, the ring being carried on a biscuit on a tin plate. The bridal party took their places in the4 southeast corner of the parlor. The bride, Miss Mary Hoffman was dressed in a white hemstitched sheet draped to form a dress and white lace curtain veil. The bride’s bouquet being straw. The groom, Mrs. Blanche Ferrel was attired in men’s clothes, the best man, Miss Ethel Buzick was dressed in blue overalls, dark coat and hat, wearing hat thro entire ceremony. The bridesmaid, Miss Galdys De Moss wore a gaudy red lace veil, Miss Ella Ackley dressed in a light blue bath robe officiated reading the ceremony from a Sears Roebuck catalog, as to which both bride and groom made faithful promises as to number of cows she would milk and excellent bread she would bake and he would keep a good supply of wood and water, build fires and keep good house and never remaining away from home after 7 o’clock in the evening. Immediately after the ceremony they had their pictures taken.

This was followed by the real bride’s shower, the gifts were placed on the parlor table and were first handed to the groom-to-be by Ella Ackley, who guessed what the packages contained without unwrapping them, they were passed on to the bride-to-be who unwrapped them. Many and useful were the gifts.

I'm anxious to learn if anyone may have knowledge of the BUZICK family or can lead me to local history about Blairsburg. Thanks!
