She grew up in Parnell, Iowa and attended West Union Mennonite Church, where she was united in marriage to Glenn Swartzendruber on December 18, 1938.
IAGenweb Needs New Greene County Coordinator

Dear Friends,

IAGenWeb has some beautiful counties that need coordinators:

CHICKASAW http://iagenweb.org/chickasaw
DICKINSON http://iagenweb.org/dickinson
GREENE http://iagenweb.org/greene
GUTHRIE http://iagenweb.org/guthrie
HENRY http://iagenweb.org/henry
LEE http://iagenweb.org/lee
LYON http://iagenweb.org/lyon
MARION http://iagenweb.org/marion
OSCEOLA http://iagenweb.org/osceola
SCOTT http://iagenweb.org/scott
WAYNE http://iagenwb.org/wayne
WEBSTER http://iagenweb.org/webster

They are ready for someone to give them the care they deeply deserve. It is not necessary to live in Iowa to be a county coordinator. The coordinator's main duties include answering email requests for reserach assistance, providing newly transcribed information, and maintaining the site, mostly though minimizing broken link.s We'd prefer a coordinator have at least basic knowledge of how to create web pages, either by writing their own code or using web design software.

Read more abou the position at http://iagenweb.org/state/primer.htm .

If you would like to adopt one of these counties, please drop us a line at welcome_to_iagenweb@iagenweb.org

We could love hearing from you!

Lynn McCleary
Cheryl Siebrass
IAGenWeb Welcome Hostesses

Yes. According to a publication of the Greene County Genealogical Society, the marriage was recorded on that date. The only other info it will give is that Mary was the dau. of Adam Shroyer and they were married by Samuel Rhoad, J. P. If you would like a copy of the record, email gcgsiowa@hotmail.com.

Marriage records are recorded in Iowa with the beginning of each county (1854 for Greene). Births and Deaths were not recorded in Iowa until 1880.

John Bruner was supposedly born September 1864 in Rippey.

Thanks
Mary

Hi Dan

I did not recognize you from the message board posting. I am still working on my Mothers picture book and have about another 70 pages to scan. I am still having Infusion Therapy(IVIG) and have experienced a very bad health year for 2012. Hopefully I am now coming out of it. I promise to e-mail it to you. Also Henry B. Coughennower & Agnes Likely were Mormons so you can get a lot of information from their records at Salt Lake City, Mom had the information but it was stolen along with the family Bible. Stay in touch - The Coughennower-McCoy family Tree would only apply to you if you find that a Hanson, Robinson or McCoy is in your family line. Grandpa Coughennower married Cora McCoy in 1922. There were many marriages between these family names from 1640 on. Talk to you later

Hi, Margaret, how are you doing? I think the last time we corresponded about a year and a half ago you were doing infusion therapy. I hope you are doing better.

I live in northeastern Nevada now, about three hours west of Salt Lake City. It has been about 15 years since I was last in Iowa as what few immediate relatives I have are scattered to the winds. I have only tracked back to Henry Coughenour (b. 1805) and Agnes Likely so I'll be sure to check your Coughennower-McElroy trees.

My email is dryheatdan@msn.com, It's great to hear from a second cousin.

Dan Jessup

Gertrude Elmira Coughennower is my Great Aunt. She is the daughter of Melangathon Coughennower and Adline DeMoss Coughennower. Her brother Clarence Coughennower is the father of my mother Leota Coughennower Wilson. I am just beginning to write all the genealogy information down that I have collected over the past 5 years of research. If your live near Jefferson Iowa you can find a book I donated called "Coughennower Family History" to the Greene County Historical Society. I will be happy to share all the family history that I have with you. Try to find my Ancestry.com trees named Coughennower-McElroy. You can also provide me with an e-mail address so I can send information to you.
Margaret Wilson Rangel

I'm serching for the family of Lambert's daughter, Hattie who was born in 1853 in Illinois and died before 1914 in Iowa. She had married ???? Smith. Here is Lambert's bio in the 1914 history of Sac County, IA:
"Lamliertus
W. Marsh was l)orn March 5, 1827, in Pompey, Onandago count}-. New
York. He was left an orphan when very young and was reared b}- an uncle
in Syracuse, New York. In the year 1845 '''^ migrated to Kenosha. Wisconsin,
and thence to .\ntioch, Illintiis, where he engaged in farming. In
1863 he enlisted in Company D, Thirty-Fourth Regiment Illinois Volunteers,
anfl served until the close of the Civil War. It is the children of Hattie Marsh and unknown Smith that I want.

The marriage of this well-known citizen occurred April i"/. 1871, at
Cedar Rapids. Here he was joined in wedlock with Emeretta A. Alarsh,
daughter of Laiubertus Walter and Regina (Blunt) Marsh. Lamliertus
In 1868 he remoxed with
his family to Cedar Ra])ids, Iowa, and thence to his farm in Greene county,
Iowa. Later, in 1885, he retired to a residence in Grand Junction, where
he died January zx,. 1912. He was a member of the Methodist church.
My father just remembered a story his father told him. His middle name was Strange, he said he was named after a friend of his fathers,(he was born in Green,Wapello,Iowa, Basil Strange Wyatt son of Willoughby Wyatt) he was born in 1902, he said later the man he was named after shot and killed a man in Iowa and went to prison. Does anyone have any Idea or Info on this Person or event. We figured the Strange was this fellows last name but we dont know for sure.

I have a copy of obits from the Jefferson Herald dated 19 Apr.,1956 & Apr.23,1964 for the two individuals listed above. They both state buried in Jefferson Cemetery.I received a couple of e-mails today from FindAGrave Photo Volunteers that stated the Cemetery office had NO record of either person being interred in the Jefferson Cemetery.Sadie's maiden name has several variants,Salsberry,
Salisberry,Salisbury,etc.
Was there perhaps another cemetery there in Jefferson that also went by the name of Jefferson Cemetery other than the one listed on the FindAGrave Internet website-??
Any help would be DEEPLY Appreciated.

Regards;
Harvey L Pearson

I'm searching for information on my GGrandfather's sister, Eliza Mary Freed. She was born in Michigan and married Sheldon Henry Young. She gave birth to two children (that I know of) in Iowa, and I can't pick up her trail from there. Her son, Sheldon R. Young was born in Greene, IA on 12 Nov 1884. Another child was born on 21 Mar 1887 in Dubuque, IA. If anyone can provide me with any additional information, I would gratefully appreciate it. Thank you, Ellen

Because we were having such a difficult time accessing your Weakley+Hanley#1 tree, we contacted ancestry. They told us that it we need to request you to peraonally "invite" us through their ancestry link, to view your tree. An invite will eliminate any problems we were having in accessing your tree. THANK YOU. We are especially wanting to view the photo of John Martin Gilligan.

Several years ago we visited Ireland and were able to locate a James Martin Gilligan living in Polladooey,Dangan Area, outside of Tuam, Galway Co. Ireland. Information gathered during our visit with James, led us to believe that we had located a direct descent from the family of Edmond and Catherine Gilligan and that one of their son', (my great grandfather, Daniel James) had imigrated to the US. Using Ireland's Griffith's Valuation 1848-1864 it indicated that their was a Margaret, Martin and Daniel--but the location is the township of Polleighter in the parish of Clonbern, Galway. We need to know if this Martin and your Martin are the same; and if that Daniel and our Daniel are the same. We do not know if Martin and Margaret are Daniel's parents or his siblings. Any information or photos you can provide us with, regarding Martin Gilligan and John Martin Gilligan would be appreciated.

I don't know why you can't get in, but after sending you the message I hunted for the family and first found them (Ancestry did)in Wheeling, Marshall Co., West Virginia. They had another daughter, Mary Ann Gilligan, and she was the daughter of Mary Alice Haley. The other children were Patrick R., John Hampton, James Edward, Margaret and Daniel. Mary Ann and Patrick died in Snohomish, WA. Mary Ann was born 6 March 1855 in Wheeling, WV and died in WA on 20 July , Everett, Sno., Washington. Your family is probably related to mine back in Ireland, but your Daniel James Gilligan's parents were Edmond Gilligan married to a Catherine in Taum Parish, Galway, Ireland. Edmond would be of the same generation as my Martin Gilligan (head of my clan) also from Taum Parish, Galvway, Ireland. I think Ancestry once had that they didn't think that the Gilligans originated from Galway, but (not sure) but possibly Co. Meath back in the 1700's. Edmond and Martin would have been of that generation, probably brothers. I hope this helps.

Mary Ann

Martin Gilligan of Taum Parish, Co. Galway was born around the late 1700's or early 1800's. He was married to an unknown Kelly and they had John Martin, who went to Trinity U. in Dublin and became an engineer and moved to the East coast and had a large family there. His wife died and he moved to East St. Louis, IL and married again and had another five kids. They he went to Colorado for work and returned to IL. I have pictures of him.

Another son, Michael K (probably Kelly) lived on the East coast too, married and his family moved south, I think to one of the Carolina's, but will have to check.

I believe your Daniel was another brother. Go to Weakley+Hanley#1 tree, use index to get to the Gilligans, and you can see all the information. I will hunt for your James too for I want to find all the family members. Mary Ann

I believe your Daniel James Gilligan's parents were Martin Gilligan and wife, unknown Kelly. They also had children, John Martin Gilligan and Michael K. Gilligan. John's son moved to Davenport and after his death, his family moved to Des Moines. Check the census in the different locations for your Daniel.

If this is a duplicate email, please forgive me. The best way to give you information is to go to my public tree, which is Weakley+Hanley#1 and use the index to find Martin Gilligan. He was the head of the clan in Galway and his children (known) are listed, just two now, Michael K. and John Martin Gilligan (my line.) Perhaps your Daniel James is another brother. I have copies of marriage license from Tuam so I know this is correct. Let me know what you think. Can I get onto your tree? My paternal grandmother was a Gilligan

Mary Ann

The gilligan line of Daniel James came from Galway county, Tuam, parish. As did mary Alice Haley, his wife. He was born in 1816 and died in 1916. Alice was born in 1933 and died in 1897.I have not found a connection linking them to any brothers or sisters in the Tuam parish. Any info you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
