John Hayes (b. 1822, Ireland, d. 1890 Charles City) and Margaret Hannon,(b. 1823 Ireland, d. 1911 Charles City) arrived in Floyd Co. abt. 1869. Hannon brothers (Michael?) also there. Many Hayes children: John m. Mary Nosser, James m. Mary Monen. Girls married E.J.Scherf, Hiram Palmer, Joseph Smith, William Goodrow, and William Thomas. Searching for any descendants. Have lines to Joseph M. Smith (b ca 1848) who married (ca. 1870). Margaret Hayes (b ca 1850). They lived in Floyd Co. from at least 1895. Joseph died in Floyd Coo. in 1914. Haven't found where or when Margaret died but it was after 1930. Any connections?

I just returned from doing research in Floyd Co. There are quite a few "Smith" burials in West Side Cemetery in Marble Rock. Didn't see your post till I returned (no internert for a whole week!) or I would have checked them closer - not my family. Do you know where in Floyd Co. your Smith and Hayes settled?

Someone asked questions abt. Mary Monen. I have little on her, but she did marry James P. Hayes, 25 Feb. 1895 in Charles City, Iowa, where they were married and died. He was the brother my great grandmother, Mary Ellen Hayes who married E.J. Scherf. I'm not clear abt. who of you wants what. I do not know Mary's parents name. I do have her kids names.
