I believe Squire had dementia and perhaps his brother was caring for him near the end of Squire's life. I think I read that in his obituary. I have been to Maynard and did research there. I will try to find what I have. He had a burial plot and is surrounded by other Paynes, as well.

Thank you for your response. Maybe my question should have been, "Why was Squire Seldon Payne in Tacoma, WA when he died? He was sent back to Iowa for burial, apparently." Looks like he had a brother, Harvey Sanford Payne, that died in Tacoma so he might have been visiting him. I have since found the parents to Squire Seldon Payne in my database. They eventually marry into my Beckner family line. My great-grandfather should have known the Payne family since he was the township clerk and justice of the peace during that time period. I live my great-grandfather's house just outside of Maynard.

Squire Seldon Payne (my 2nd great grandfather) moved to Iowa and helped establish the town of Maynard. There are other Paynes buried there too. I atill have relatives living in Iowa and my sister was born in Oelwein. he has a biographical sketch somwhere on-line that tells about him. He ALSO WAS AN AMBULANCE DRIVER in the Civil War--info also on line. There is a photo of him with some of his elderly siblings, as well.

The lineage is Philip and Sophia (Fox) Cline through their son, Edwin Lafayette and Lua (Hollister) Cline through their son Harold Hollister and Grace Duley (Jenness) Cline through their son John Edwin and Edith Mae (Sigurdson)Cline. I am looking for information regarding Samuel's paternal grandparents who would be the parents of Philip Cline born 11 January 1764. I also have a connection with you through the Talcott family and my great-grandmother Lua Hollister Cline whose mother was a Talcott. Jan

His mother's name was Maria Sophia Dorothea Seedorff from Laase, Mecklenberg Germany. I think she was the daughter of Johann Seedorff and Elizabeth Mense but I can't verify that. Jochen Peters would have been his step father.

A Year later Sam's brother William H and his wife Isabella (Lucas) Gardner came to Fayette County. William later made several moves. One was to Mills County Iowa. William Hs Wife, Isabella finally wound up in Omaha, NB living with Her son William J. The City directory lists most of the family including Isabella who the 1900 directory called "Widowed" and living with her son William J.
Since the photo album was labeled by Ruth by hand, she didn't seem to feel any need to list the school, but I *think* she taught at Fayette Community School.

There are also labeled pictures with dates of 1930 to around 1932, that I think are her own classmates. They seem to be associated with Stanley Consolidated School.

She lived all her adult life in Fayette, so wherever she taught, it was around there somewhere.

Unfortuntely all of her children and most of her Grandchildren are deceased so there is probably no one that would remember. My Mom, Lois, was the youngest of the Swale children of Herbert & Lillian and most of her siblings were married and away from home when she was born. Mom would have been 98 this year and I just attended the birthday party for her Niece who is 100. Sorry!

Hi. I know you replied to me and said that you didn't have any information, but actually, I've just learned that Olive Swale took in my grandmas mom (Dorothy Swale) while she was pregnant with my grandma (around 1920). After Dorothy gave birth to my grandma, it is believed that Olive may have raised her (my grandma) for a short time. My grandma was then taken in by two older sisters (originally from Fayette), Dr. Sadie Morton, and her younger sister, Edith Alice Morton. If any of this makes any kind of sense to you, please let me know :)
Thanks
Sincerely,
Margie Schaake

Hello. This sounds crazy, but my grandmother, Marjorie Ressler Moore, was the biological daughter of Dorothy Swale. Dorothy was the daughter of Emma and Albert Swale. Dorothy Swale gave my grandma away, to be raised by two sisters who also lived in Fayette, and may be related to the Swales in some way. Their names were Dr. Sadie (Sarah) Morton and E. Alice Morton (Edith Morton). What I have learned recently is that when my grandma was around the age of three, the Resslers (Francis and Ivan), who were friends, and maybe relatives of the Morton sisters....and the Swales. The Resslers took my grandma at the age of three, and raised her from there.
If any of you have any additional information, please email or call me. 4029658845/threeboys4us@cox.net. My name is Marjorie Moore-Schaake. It is believed that my grandmas biological father was Alfred Eastman, also from Fayette. Thank You

I worked on my paternal line up to John Seedorff who lived from 1840-1929, he immigrated from germany with his wife and daughter. I was wondering if anyone had any information about his parents and grandparents back in germany.
Note: His name in germany was Johann Seedorf and his parents were Jochen Peters and Maria Seedorf.

P.S Also why did he take his mothers maiden name.

A friend of mine is looking for more information on the Richard R. Saul family. Her main interest is in John R. Saul who married a Margaret Bellew in Ft. Dodge, Iowa in 1900. If there is anyone that knows more about this family, would you please contact Pam Sherry at pamsherry1@comcast.net

Thank you for any help that you can give her,

Margaret S.
