Hi Bonnie-I received a new response this morning that explains who's who. The envelope was sent by Frank Springer. Springer worked with Wachsmuth on fossils in a laboratory that Wachsmuth built behind the house at 111 Marietta.

You can see a list of publications they co-authored at http://crinoid.gsajournals.org/crinoidmod/bib?id=wachsmuth-s.... The 111 Marietta Street address shows up in an annual report of the Carnegie Institute at http://books.google.com/books?id=bn5IAAAAMAAJ&pg=RA2-PA5...

Thanks again for your help.
Jim

Great to hear from you. My gg grandmother was Caroline Muenzenmaier-Kurrle. Her husband was Paul Gottlieb Fredericke Kurrle. He died when he was in his 50's. Between them they had 14 children, all of which came to the states around 1885. Caroline went to stay with 2 of her brothers in Burlington, Iowa. Most are buried in Aspen Grove Cemetery, and I do have the listing from the cemetery of all the Muenzenmaiers(meyers) buried there. I would be more than happy to provide any info that you may want.
Best Regards,
Heather

James Graham, born about 1864 in Wisconsin, lived in Burlington, IA (1920-?). He was alive when his brother Albert passed away (July 1940) and living in Burlington; James would have been about 77 at that time.

James was single. His parents were James Graham (Ireland) and Mary/Maloney/Belona Flint (New York).

I'm looking for death information and/or an obituary.

If I need to look to a different venue to find this information, I would appreciate any leads.

Thank you.

1907 envelope sent to Germany from 111 Marietta Street, Burlington, IA

I recently found an old envelope that was sent to Germany from 111 Marietta Street, Burlington, IA in 1907. You can see the envelope on www.philgen.org (search on Burlington, select the one sent to Leipzig, Germany, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page), or click on the link below. I am unable to read the sender's name and wondered if someone more familiar with Burlington can read it. I believe that the sender may have family in Germany and this envelope will be helpful to someone in their genealogical research. The reason I have a photo of the envelope is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy and have started the philgen website. I do not know if the letter that was in the envelope still exists. Thank you for your help.

Here is a direct link to the photo of the envelope:
http://www.philgen.org/index.php?option=com_fabrik&c=for...

Do you know if there are Burlington directories available for 1907 (or 1906 or 1908)? Perhaps there was someone at 111 for a short time.

Thanks again for your effortss and for your reply.
Jim Miller

Married, I believe, in 1879 in Omaha, Nebraska and where she continued to live. Is believed to have divorced prior to 1885. Also believed that she went to Iowa because of the stigma of divorce at that time. ANY help in this is extremely appreciated! Thank you!

Thomas Brown's wife Mary Ann was a daughter of Stephen Riggs and Elizabeth Riggs (her maiden name--she was a cousin of Stephen). The ancestry has been traced back to an indentured servant arriving at Accomack Co. Virginia in 1686, Abraham Riggs.
Thomas and Mary Ann were divorced in the Burlington court in 1880. In the 1880 census she was living with daughter Cora and Cora's husband Hiram Graves in Washington, Pottawatamie Co., IA. In an 1885 state census Thomas is living in Allerton, Wayne Co., Iowa, remarried to Anna----
I am researching this family for a descendant of Cora Brown Graves.

Mary Kay
