Riemann, George
George Wilbur Ralph Riemann, 96, Mediapolis, died Friday, May 16, 2003, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. The son of Fred and Ida Hinson Riemann, he was born July 15, 1906, in Des Moines County, Iowa. On September 3, 1927, he married Alta Ana Benkert at West Burlington; she died September 16, 1993.
He farmed in the Sperry area, was a trucker in Kingston, and owned and operated the Phillips 66 station in Kingston. After his retirement he worked at Bock’s Greenhouse. He enjoyed his mechanic work and always enjoyed gardening and flowers.
Survivors include seven daughters, Winona and Max Anderson of Oakville, Marcelle Brown of Mediapolis, Dorothy and Elmer Springsteen of Burlington, Virginia and Jim Kidder of Knoxville, Doris and Kenneth Rechkemmer of Mediapolis, Velma and Howard Keitzer of Mediapolis, and Florence and Marvin Miller of Mount Union; one son, Donald and Judy Riemann of Longmont, Colo; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Retta McCahan of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, two brothers, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral service for George Riemann was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, from the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, with the Rev. John Gaulke officiating. Interment followed at the Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.
Visitation was Monday at the funeral home, where the family met with friends in the evening.
A memorial fund has been established for the Mediapolis Community Ambulance Service.
