I am seeking info on Mary Jane Sutton who married John Corder in Mercer CO Il in 1870. They were in Des Moines Co IA by 1880.

John and Mary had daughters Hattie Ypsilanti and Grace G. Corder. Both born in IA. Hattie married Charles Kline. She may have been a nurse in 1920. Hattie may have divorced and used the Corder name by then.

A neice Bessie Snow is living with the Corders in 1900.

Mary Jane sutton is I think the daughter of William Sutton and ?, her step mother would have been Ypsilanti Gates Sutton. Mary was born in IL. abt 1853. I am looking for parent and Burial or date of death info on this family.

If this is my Mary, her father is my 3rd gr grandfather. I am assuming Hattie's middle name is after her step mother Ypsilanti Gates. It's too unusual to be a fluke. I have info on her 1/2 siblings if you would like it.

There is a Geneva Corder Nelson buried next to the above. She was born in 1886 and died in 1971. Don't know if she is their daughter or not, but I knew her descendants.

Did not find either of the other daughters you mentioned. There are lots of Klines in the Sperry area, many buried at Old Stone Cemetery, but I did not find a Charles there.

One more bit of information:

John Corder is possibly the operator of the first restaurant in Mediapolis, Ia. 10-25-1876 issue of Mediapolis Enterprise it was advertised that you could get fresh oysters at John Corder's restaurant. John Corder worked as a carpenter after selling his restaurant, and at one time was employed as a shoemaker. A daughter of John Corder, Geneva, married Robert Nelson. In 1882 E.D. Gillmore purchased the Confectionery store from John Corder.

Nancy Alice Sutton, who may be the sister of Mary Sutton Corder, is my great-grandmother. John Corder may be related to Elizabeth Corder who married Darius Snow, and they're my great-great-grandparents. The Bessie Snow who was listed as their niece in the 1900 census was my grandma's older sister.

I'm related to John Corder and/or Mary Sutton Corder, and am very interested in anything you might know concerning Geneva Corder Nelson's descendants. Her cousin was Bessie Snow who was staying with the family in 1900. Bessie was my grandmother's sister, and my grandmother named my mom Geneva. I'm also interested in finding out where I can get copies of the newspaper and 1975 centennial book that mention John Corder's restaurant. Thank you for any help.
