Thomas Brown was born abt 1814 in Vermont, wife Mary Ann ___, b. abt 1815 Kentucky, children: Mary Hannah, b. abt 1837, Ohio, George A., b. abt 1841, Iowa, Jerusha b. abt 1842, Iowa, Levi b. abt 1844, Iowa, Jasper b. abt 1854, Iowa, Greenlief, b. abt 1857, IA, Cora, b. abt 1859, Iowa.

Mary Hannah was the second wife of Elijah Judd, who m. 1) Catherine Bolick.

I have found Thomas' family on the 1856 Iowa State Census, as well as 1860 and 1870 in Des Moines County. After that they seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth. According to the 1856 census they had been in Iowa since about 1839.

Any help either on descendents or ancestors of Thomas or his wife Mary would be greatly appreciated.

I have recently started researching the Thomas Brown family. I have found his wife's name to be Mary Ann Griggs, according to the 1925 Iowa census, Woodbury Co., Sioux City, Mrs. Nellie Sullivan (her daughter) household. I am tracing a descent from Thomas and Mary Ann's youngest daughter, Cora, who married Hiram Graves from Henry Co. They lived in Sioux City and had children: Thadeus, b. 1876,Jasper, b. 1879, Mary, b. 1882, Nellie, b. 1884, Adora, b. 1886, Susan, b. 1889, Hiram Thomas, b. 1892, and Margaret, b. 1894.

Thomas Brown's wife Mary Ann was a daughter of Stephen Riggs and Elizabeth Riggs (her maiden name--she was a cousin of Stephen). The ancestry has been traced back to an indentured servant arriving at Accomack Co. Virginia in 1686, Abraham Riggs.
Thomas and Mary Ann were divorced in the Burlington court in 1880. In the 1880 census she was living with daughter Cora and Cora's husband Hiram Graves in Washington, Pottawatamie Co., IA. In an 1885 state census Thomas is living in Allerton, Wayne Co., Iowa, remarried to Anna----
I am researching this family for a descendant of Cora Brown Graves.
