I am still seeking any info on the NEUFNER/GRUPE family. Anton Neufner was a button polisher somewhaere in Iowa and William Neufner worked at the basket factory in Burlington. Maybe if I find out more about these businesses, I can find out more about these early ancestors.
Beleive there was a nursery in Burlington-Lagomarine-Grupe Co.that employed some of the Neufner family......
Other names married into the family are:
TANSEY(TANSY). Barbara and Harley
MARTIN Tom and Kate
BAUMGARTNER,William Neufner and Naomi

Let me know if you have any clues for me !

Thanks !

Hi
The Burlington Basket Company is still there. The other may be Largomaracino . I don't think I spelled it quite right , but it was a company that was there in the 1960. I couldn't find it listed in the Burlington yellow pages but I may have not spelled it right.

Karen,

The basket factory still exists along the river in Burlington today. The nursery known as Lagomarcino Grupe was I believe -this is off the top of my head - located south of Burlington near what is now Crapo Park. Lagomarcino Grupe somehow became a grocery supply company and by the 1950's merged with Benner Tea Company, another grocer supply company that still exists - I believe - in West Burlington on Mt. Pleasant St. I worked at Benner offices in the mid 1960's. We had a division called Lagy-Grupe.

Button factories were generally located around Muscatine however there was a recent article in the Burlington paper about a piece of button mfg equipment that some guy in Oquawka, Ill has acquired. I believe it mentioned button factories in Burlington and across the river in Illinois, but I have no information on this.

Just checked a Burlington phone book and there are still Grupes in the area, as well as a Grupe nursery on Mt. Pleasant St. in 1995.
