Would anyone have information on this family? Albert & his wife split in 1900. They were in the 1900 census with the children in Dallas Center Town, Dallas County. In 1900 or 01 the children were placed in a home and possibly adopted out. Is there anyone who could possibly check this out if they are going to the library anyway. Children were Velda King, Violet King, Veda King and Mona King. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps someone might also know the names of the elementary schools in Dallas County in 1900?

POW/MIA Korean War, Dallas Co. STUMP

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Dallas County, Iowa as his home of record.

Soldier:DONALD PAUL STUMP
Born: November 5, 1929. Caucasian
Date of loss: July 22, 1952, KIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 34 families in Iowa that have not been located. There is one family from Dallas County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Obituary of Elizabeth Woodell JONES

Mrs. Elizabeth Jones (7 Feb 1896)

Elizabeth Woodell was born July 17, 1814, in Bridlington, England, and died at the residence of her son, B. F. Jones, near Waukee, Dallas County, Iowa, February 7, 1896, aged 82 years, 6 months and 21 days.

Her father's family removed to Claremont, New Hampshire, when she was 9 years of age. She joined the M. E. church at the age of 14 years. She was married in 1835 to Alfred Jones, and in 1856 they came to Champaign, Illinois. She was the mother of six children, four sons and two daughters, two of whom survive her, B. F. Jones, of Waukee, and Geo. A. Jones, of Colfax township. She lived a widow for thirty-two years. She, with her youngest son and family removed from Illinois to Iowa five years ago and has since made her home with her two sons. Mrs. Mary E. Roberts, formerly of Dallas Center, now deceased, and well-known to many of our readers, was her daughter. She lived an exemplary Christian life, which came to a peaceful close, sustained by the comforting words oft-repeated, "The Lord is my shepard, I shall not want."

The remains were taken by her two sons to Champaign, Illinois, where they laid her to rest in the family burying ground.

Obituary of Ellen Mariah Baker JONES

From: Dallas County News, July 9, 1913

Ellen Mariah Baker was born in Hartford, Conn., July 19, 1848, and died at her home in Waukee, Dallas County, Iowa, Nov. 19th, 1912, her age being sixty -four years and four months.

In 1856 she moved with her parents and family to Champaign, Ill. , but spent several years of her school life with her uncle and aunt , Mr. and Mrs. Greentree in Rochester, N.Y.

On Oct 21st, 1869, she was united in marriage to B. F. Jones. To this union nine children were born, five boys and four girls, one Lucy, died in infancy, the rest of the children are all living, Mrs. Maggie Shannon, Mrs. Abbie Copeland, Mr. A. J. Jones, Mr. E. A. Jones , Mr. G. C. Jones, Mr. B. F Jones, Jr., all living in and near Waukee , Ia., Mrs. May Shannon lives in Sac City, Iowa, and H. M. Jones in Kansas City, Mo. She also leaves an aged mother and one brother, M. G . Baker of Dec Moines, Iowa, and a sister living in Sac City, Iowa. Mrs. B. F. Jones was a faithful Christian always speaking a word of encouragement to her large family and many friends. On October 21st was celebrated the forty-third wedding anniversary, the family was all present. We little thought then at our reunion our family tie would so soon be broken, but such is life, in the midst of life we are in death.

In her last sickness she was hopeful to the last. While lying on her sick bed she sang several verses of "Will There be Any Stars in My Crown?"

She was a faithful member of the Christian Church, her home always open to entertain the ministers of her church. While we gretly miss her words of cheer in the home, we shall all look forward to join her again in the Heavenly home and make an unbroken band where sickness and death never come.

We wish to thank our many friends for their faithful services in the illness and death of our wife and mother.

B. F. Jones and Family

Michael was born in 1863 in Iowa, and Amilda was born in 1867 in Illinois. They had 3 children: Edward M, Mildred A and Louis E. It would be great if someone knew who their parents are (they were all born in Ireland.) and I would really appreciate it if someone could do a marriage lookup for Michael and Amilda or give me any additional information. Thank you.

He was in the 1880 Census in Iowa, age 11.
Any clues would sure be helpful!
Thank you!

I am seeking information on Harriet, Margaret, and Mary MARIETTA - daughters of Uriah MARIETTA. All three were born in Fayette or Somerset Counties, Pennsylvania. Harriet was born about 1833, Margaret about 1839, and Mary about 1843. In 1857 the family left Pennsylvania for Iowa, settling initially in Clarke County. The three sisters appear in the Clarke County 1860 census, and that's the last I've found on them so far. The family later moved to adjacent Warren County, but the sisters do not appear in the 1870 census. Marriage, death, and cemetery records of both Clarke and Warren counties have been searched without success as yet. Does anyone have any information on what became of any these three young women?

On 6 Oct 1872 Edmund (or Edward) Broderick was shot to death by his neighbor John Green in a dispute over cattle in Walnut, Dallas, Iowa. The story was carried in the Des Moines Register on 8 Oct 1872. On 22 Oct 1872 the widow Anna filed a Petition for Administration. Family tradition gives his birth as about 1837, perhaps in Illinois.
My question is would there be some sort of death record that might give a clue as to his origins, parents, or immigration? How would I access that? Or would some kind person look it up for me?
Thanks in advance, Calvin T. Wright, RAOGK volunteer in New Hampshire.
Her husband's name was Richard Templeton Jr. Would like an obit also if possible.

Richard's funeral was held at the Workman Funeral Home. Is that still in existence? If so, perhaps I could ask them if they handled Birdie's funeral.

Thank you in advance.

Trying to verify this. Richard is supposedly buried in Rippey, IA which is in Greene County. The family moved from IL to IA after 1910 because the 3rd child was bornin 1911 in IA.

My mother's cousin was born in 1904. Prior to her death, just a few years ago, I questioned her regarding our Reinhard family from Buffalo, Scott Co., Iowa.

She stated that her grandmother, Mary (Reinhard) Rauch, often spoke of, corresponded with and visited "her family out west."

Come to find out, "out west" was actually the Stuart, Iowa area.

Somehow, we connect to the Matz, Fett, Colbert & Hadley lines.

Mary (Reinhard) Rauch was born in Spirkelbach, Pfalz, Germany in 1850. Her parents were Johann Jakob & Anna Maria (Jung/Young) Reinhard. This family came to America in 1850.

Does anyone have family with the names Matz, Fett, Colbert & Hadley?

I look forward to hearing from anyone in the Stuart, Menlo, Redfield area with those names.

Lynnea
