OBITUARY

"Mrs. Ruth Caroline McCHESNEY died at the home of Samuel HIGGS, June 25th, 1900, at 11 o'clock p.m. The funeral which was conducted by Rev. Nathan HICKS, took place at Prairie Center at eleven o'clock, on June 28th.
Ruth Caroline Racey was born September 22nd, 1818, at Newark, N.J., and lived eighty-one years, nine months and four days. In 1836 she was married to Jonathan McCHESNEY, who died some ten years ago. To this union was born a large family, of which four sons and one daughter still survive.
Jonathan and Ruth McCHESNEY were converted while young and joined the M.E. Church at Orange, N.J. In 1857 they moved to Iowa, living in the eastern part of the state for a number of years, afterwards coming to Dallas county where they made their permanent home. About this time they united with the U.B. church, of which they were members until death. They were beloved by all who knew them, and many hearts were filled with sadness as they gazed upon the parting scene, but we do not mourn as those who have no hope. If all are faithful to the Saviour whom they loved to serve,we shall meet them in a country from whence no traveler ever returns. They are gone to their reward and their works follow them."
