Phineas Turner is my great-great grandfather. His dau Mary Josephine married Joseph Cellars Carns June 30, 1881. Their daughter Ina Florence taught school in the Hopeville area.

When Ina was about 30 she married Francis Marion Arnold (son of Roderick Perry and Mary (Moran) Arnold and grandson of William Henry and Mildred Ann (Davis) Arnold). Ina and Francis had four children: Joe Elton, Loa Ruth, Francis Max and Eldon Jay (my father).

Eldon Jay Arnold married Avis Marie Markus in 1946 and had Ralph Dean, Sandra Sue (me) Shirley Ann, Mark Edward and Jean Lydia. My father is 86 and lives near me.
Elvira Hendrick is my great-great aunt. She is the Dau of William Henry Arnold, born 1816 in KY and Mildred Ann (Polly) Davis born 1831 in Madison Co. IL. They moved to Clarke Co in 1871. Elvira's siblings are Harvey (who hung himself), Roderick Perry (who disappeared), and Elizabeth Ann who married a Reynolds.

Roderick Perry married Mary Moran. Their first child was named after William Henry (grandfather) but the child died at about 2 yr. There was also an infant girl who died soon after birth. Francis Marion was the only one of their children I know of who lived.

I do not know when, where and how Mary (Moran) and Roderick Perry Arnold died. I can find no trace of them anywhere. I imagine Mary died soon after Francis was born in 1882, and perhaps Perry also died because Francis Marion was given to Elvira to raise.

Francis Marion Arnold married Ina Florence Carns and they had four children, Joe Elton, Ruth Loa, Francis Max, and Eldon Jay (my father).

Elvira's maternal grandparents, Owen T and Francis Sarah (Harris) Davis lived in Clarke Co and are buried in the Lacelle cemetery. I have been to Francis Sarah (Harris) Davis's home place near Troy, IL. Her father Benjamin Proctor Harris is buried in a cemetery south of town. Dale Williman lives in the house across and west of that cemetery. Benjamin Proctor is his fourth great grandfather, Benjamin is my fifth great grandfather.

Francis Marion and Ina separated but never divorced. Ina lived in Osceola and Creston IA all her life. Francis lived in Missouri, Oklahoma and Arizona. He is buried in Glendale, AZ. Sandra Sue (Arnold) Myers

I am researching the SCOTT family in Des Moines County. I seem to see some interactions between them and the BISHOP family. For example, a Sarah SCOTT sold some land to Joseph BISHOP for $5 (which I believe is potentially significant).

I wanted to know if you happened to know of any SCOTT ties in the BISHOP lines, or why that land transaction might make sense.

Also, the really tenuous thread is that one of the daughters of a William SCOTT in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, in whom I am very interested married a George MILLER. I'm kind of remembering, but didn't Lewis marry a MILLER? I was just wondering if that might be another possible "connection" even if very remote.

Thanks for responding. Will hope that you might have some new information.

Lorraine (direct at lorraineq@juno.com)

Would like to obtain a copy of GGG Grandfathers will. Abraham M Roach died on July 22, 1895. I found an index for the "Clark County Iowa Will Record" and Abraham is listed in Vol. 3 pg 51. Can anyone tell me the best way to contact the Clerk Office, what they charge to do lookups and the charge for a copy?

Would also like to know where I might find obituaries for Green Bay in 1895 and 1889. Is there a library in Clarke County that will have newspapers printed in those years?

Would like to trade information on the family of Abraham M Roach (born on May 3, 1816 in PA and died July 22, 1895 at Green Bay, Clarke County, Iowa) and his wife Sarah Dibble Roach (born 1822 in Ohio and died in 1889 at Green Bay, Clarke County, Iowa).

Thank you in advance to anyone that can help me with this family.
Betty

I found Samuel Fink listed in the 1885 Iowa State Census for Osceola, Clark County, Iowa. He has a wife, Elizabeth, and two minors in his household, Cora and Edward Jones.

Five years earlier, Samuel is listed in the 1880 census, no wife.

He must have married the widowed Elizabeth Jones between 1880 and 1885.

I don't recall where I sourced that info on his marriage. It's been some time since I worked on this line. That may be an error. This family line is very interesting and really enjoyed researching it so far, but I made a lot of headway on my fathers side and very little was known.

I want to make it known that the Mormon library has misinformation on our Lingle lineage. Their record of Simon Lingle's wife as Susan Steener should be corrected to Susan (or Susanna) Stoner. In fact she gave her maiden name of Stoner to her sons:
John Stoner Lingle (b. Pa. abt 1811, lived in Benton Co, Mo)Simon Stoner Lingle b. abt. 1820 in Pa. lived in Morgan Co,Mo. I believe another son listed as Joseph S. in 1850 Harrisburg, Pa. census probably also bore the middle name Stoner. A Susan Lingle (probably his mother) was listed in the household in that census. Her husband Simon Conrad Lingle had died in 1849.

The William and Frances Lewallen Family William Lewallen was born on October 12, 1829, in Bedford County, Virginia. He came to Highland County, Ohio, and married Frances Lowman there on September 11, 1850. She was born January 9, 1832. To this union were born five sons and five daughters, four daughters preceded William in death. In 1854, they moved to Knox County, Illinois. William enlisted in Company K, 11th Regiment of the Illinois Cavalry in 1861. He served only about ninety days before obtaining a medical discharge because of a wrist injury that did not heal properly. He reenlisted in 1864, and was in a hospital at Vicksburg at the end of the war for an intestinal disorder which apparently troubled him throughout his life, since that was what was listed on his death certificate.
