Elvira Arnold was born in Marshall county, Illinois, May 17, 1844 and died at her home in Osceola, Iowa, March 4, 1913, aged 68 years, 3 months and 15 days.

She was married to Edwin M. Hendrick March 8, 1874, and to this union were born six children, four daughters and two sons. The sons died in infancy and the daughters are Mrs. Lydia Harless, Mrs. Ida Davis, Mrs. Ellen Staley, and Lucy M. Hendrick. She reared a nephew, Francis Arnold, giving him the same care and effection as her own children. Besides her children and husband she leaves four grand-children and an only sister, Mrs. Jane Reynolds, of Osceola.

She united with the Christian church when thirteen years of age and had lived a faithful member. She came to Clarke county, in 1871 and had since resided here.

The funeral services were held from the Christian church on Thursday, March sixth, conducted by Rev. _________

Elvira Hendrick is my great-great aunt. She is the Dau of William Henry Arnold, born 1816 in KY and Mildred Ann (Polly) Davis born 1831 in Madison Co. IL. They moved to Clarke Co in 1871. Elvira's siblings are Harvey (who hung himself), Roderick Perry (who disappeared), and Elizabeth Ann who married a Reynolds.

Roderick Perry married Mary Moran. Their first child was named after William Henry (grandfather) but the child died at about 2 yr. There was also an infant girl who died soon after birth. Francis Marion was the only one of their children I know of who lived.

I do not know when, where and how Mary (Moran) and Roderick Perry Arnold died. I can find no trace of them anywhere. I imagine Mary died soon after Francis was born in 1882, and perhaps Perry also died because Francis Marion was given to Elvira to raise.

Francis Marion Arnold married Ina Florence Carns and they had four children, Joe Elton, Ruth Loa, Francis Max, and Eldon Jay (my father).

Elvira's maternal grandparents, Owen T and Francis Sarah (Harris) Davis lived in Clarke Co and are buried in the Lacelle cemetery. I have been to Francis Sarah (Harris) Davis's home place near Troy, IL. Her father Benjamin Proctor Harris is buried in a cemetery south of town. Dale Williman lives in the house across and west of that cemetery. Benjamin Proctor is his fourth great grandfather, Benjamin is my fifth great grandfather.

Francis Marion and Ina separated but never divorced. Ina lived in Osceola and Creston IA all her life. Francis lived in Missouri, Oklahoma and Arizona. He is buried in Glendale, AZ. Sandra Sue (Arnold) Myers
