ABRAHAM CARSON, one of the pioneers of Jackson Township, resides on section 11. He took eighty acres of Government land in 1855, and immediately commenced improvements. After about ten years residence he added another eighty acres, buying it second-hand. Mr. Carson was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, October 9, 1812. His father, Thomas CARSON, was born in Maryland, and his mother, Anna Layton, was a native of New England. Abraham was the third of a family of twelve children.
He was reared in Fayette County, and in that county married Elizabeth Chambers, born in West Virginia, September 8, 1810. They have nine children, viz; Asa, of Jackson Township; Mrs. Mary Arnett, also of Jackson Township; Thomas, of Osceola Township; Mrs. Ellen Reese, James, Ephraim, Mrs. Nancy Johnson, also of Jackson township; Job, at home with his parents; Mrs. Caroline Crowl, a resident of Indiana.
Mr. Carson retains eighty acres of land for his own use, and has assisted his sons with the remainder. He has a good home, all the comforts of life, and with many of his children settled around him he looks back with pride upon a well-spent life, with but few regrets. Politically he is a Republican. George Chambers of Woodburn, and Joseph Chambers of Jackson Township, are brothers of Mrs. Carson.
