Agans was born in
Murray,
Iowa, October 21, 1872, son of John and
Hester Little
Agans. died July 8, 1958 at the
Monroe hospital. For many years prominent as an educator and school administrator, he has been called the "father" of girls basketball in
Iowa High
Schools. He was the Hiteman schools superintendent and coach from 1918 - 1923 and from 1938 - 1942. His career included farming and he was recognized as a conservationist. He was also a writer - his " History of Hiteman
Schools" was published several years ago by The Albia Newspapers.
Funeral services for Mr. Agans will be Sunday at 2 p. m. at the Methodist church in
Derby,
Iowa, where he established residence after retiring from schools administration. Burial will be at
Murray. The body is a
Zimmerman Funeral Home in Lovilia.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs
Mona Coop of Russell - two sons, John B. Agans of Indianola and Gerald
Agans of Omaha, Neb. and two brothers - Charles S. Agans of Albia and William
Agans of
Murray.
Mr Agans was a brother of E. E. Agans, first manager of the
Chariton Valley Electric
Coop., who died here last Dec. 10. He was also preceded in death by a daughter.
