Hi,

Just came across your message while looking for information on my surname 'Buttleman'. Don't think I can be of any help to you.... you could probably be more helpful to me. I live in the UK and am aware that my immediate family are the only ones who have the surname in this Country but since being on the internet have discovered that there are quite a few in the States. Don't know why I'm writing to you really but any connections could be interesting!

Hi Kim, just read your message. I too don't know why I'm writing but I am also a Buttleman and have also been led to believe that we are the only known family in this Country with this surname so we're obviously some sort of relation! Would be nice to get in contact with you as I'm pretty keen to start tracing my family tree as it's quite a rare name.

Hi Kim, I recognize most of the names you listed as I grew up in Lowden, Iowa. My mom Eileen J Licht Buttleman knows the Barenthin family that farmed near Toronto, Iowa and I have some information on the Licht families that farmed in the same area. Let me know if I can help. Michael Buttleman

First off, I just had to laugh because I think you named half the county! LOL Lowden only has about 750 people.

My grandfather was George Ibsen, son of John & Ida Licht Ibsen. Charles is related, but I can't remember how, exactly. George's sister, Gertrude, married Walter Hartwig (no "n"). George's wife, Evelyn is the daughter of Marie Edler (Henry) Meyer. One of the Edler girls married a Kruckenberg. Doc Bowstead was the local vet when I was young and I believe Pauline was his wife. Hank Twachtmann was a barber. The Larry Stolte's lived on the farm next to my father's parents and I graduated with a Buttleman and the step-daughter of a Rowald.

I'm going to Lowden to visit in two weeks if you have specific questions you want me to ask.

I checked the Van Horn Cemetery list (http://iagenweb.org/cedar/cemeteries/vanhorn.htm) and found the following listings:

ENGELKING Dietrich . . Father
ENGELKING Louise . . Mother

I also checked the Cedar County GenWeb site (http://iagenweb.org/cedar/) and found Ida and Elmer Engelking listed in the Social Security Death Index list:

Engelking, Ida
B. 05 Aug 1886
D. Jul 1968
52772 (Tipton) Iowa

Engelking, Elmer
B. 10 Aug 1908
D. Dec 1977
52216 (Clarence) Iowa

Hope that helps!
