Joan I. Updike, 72

Joan I. Updike, 72, of rural Huntington, died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

She was a bookkeeper and co-owner of B&B Fertilizer in Huntington for 40 years, retiring in 1990.

She was a graduate of Bippus High School with the class of 1943 and was a member of the Salamonie Church of the
Brethren.

She was born on Sept. 22, 1925 to Esta and Leafy Iry Horrell in Huntington County. Her marriage Sept,. 29, 1946 in
Huntington County was to Robert Updike, who survives.

Surviving also are a son, Terry Updike of Huntington; two daughters, Jean Updike of Marion and Mrs. Jim (Pat) Brown of
Huntington; two sisters, Margaret Harris of Fort Wayne and Eloise Bickel of Huntington; and five granddaughters. Two
brothers and a sister preceded her in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Home in Huntington with Pastor Mark Bendes officiating. Burial
will be in Lancaster Cemetery in Huntington County.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4:30 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
