Civil War Veteran Dies.

BLUFFTON, Ind., March 22. -- Rolly Martin VanCamp, aged 85 years, is dead at his home in Poneto. He had been a sufferer from dropsy and heart disease for six years, but was seriously ill only two weeks. Mr. VanCamp was born in Wetzel county, West Virginia, and came to Wells county 25 years ago. He was a civil war veteran. Surviving besides the widow are the following children: Georgiana Earhart and James Bennie VanCamp, of Roanoke; Alfred VanCamp, Belle Cupp and Maggie Leist, of this city; Samuel Alexand (sic) VanCamp, of Poneto; and Worley VanCamp, of Montpelier.


Postmaster Resigns.

BLUFFTON, Ind., March 22. -- B. A. Batson has tendered his resignation as postmaster of Bluffton, the resignation to take effect April 1. He has been postmaster here seven years. He recently purchased a farm in southern Michigan and resigns to move to his farm. A successor has not as yet been appointed. Charles Van Horn, republican county chairman, is mentioned as the probable successor.


Bluffton Marriage.

BLUFFTON, Ind., March 22. -- Miss Viva Lesh and Harvey Inskeep were united in marriage yesterday. The bride is a daughter of Milo Lesh, and the groom a son of Vause Inskeep.


Undergoes Operation.

BLUFFTON, Ind., March 22. -- Mrs. Hoyt Hartman underwent an operation at the Wells County hospital.


Pioneer of Wells County Dies.

BLUFFTON, Ind., March 23. -- Hiram Dewitt, a pioneer resident of Wells county, aged 88 years, is dead at his home two miles north of Keystone. Death was due to cancer. As a civil war veterans (sic) and an active worker in community affairs Hiram Dewitt was well known over Wells county. He was born December 1, 1832, in New York, the son of Moses and Sally Esterbrook DeWitt. He came to Wells county with his parents in 1842 and settled near Murray. He was united in marriage to Mahaley Showalter in Chester township, December 24, 1866. She survives, as does the step-daughter, Mrs. Harry Clay of Poneto. A brother and sister living are Worthy DeWitt and Mrs. John Faulk, both of this city. He was affiliated with the Christian church.


Chicken Thieves Sentenced.

BLUFFTON, Ind., March 22. -- Howard Blair and Hugh Nutter confessed chicken thieves, were, Saturday, sentenced to a term of six months at the state penal farm. Howard Straley, a third member of the group, has not been captured. Blair and Nutter blame Straley for leading them into thievery. They said that Cochran, the Phenix storekeeper, knew the chickens were stolen and waited after hours at his store for them to bring in the loot. Cochran is out on bond charged with grand larceny.
