News.)
UNIONDALE, Ind., June 30. -- Mrs. Olive
Prough Waikel, aged 72, committed suicide at 4:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon by hanging herself in the barn at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James
Barrick in Uniondale. A continued illness of several years' duration is believed to have been the cause of the act.
When Mrs. Barrick could not find her mother in the house where she was accustomed to staying most of the time, she begun a search for her. As she passed the barn at the rear of the house she discovered Mrs. Waikel hanging from a rafter by a long rope, which she had thrown across it. She was dead when found.
Besides Mrs. Barrick, the deceased leaves another daughter, Mrs. Chester
Brickley, of Uniondale, and a son,
Grant, of
Huntington. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon.
