Ossian News

Ossian, Ind., Nov. 17. -- Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Elzey entertained at Sunday dinner in honor of Mrs. Elzey's brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Linn, of Clyde Park, Montana. The other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Linn and sons, Lawrence and Joe, of Decatur; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Kern, daughters Gladys and Crystal, and sons Linn and Gale, of Van Buren; Miss Medda Davis, of Fremont, O.; Miss Lulu Miller, of Oak Harbor, O., and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Elzey, of Ossian.

Miss Mary Hunter had as a week-end guest, Miss Lela Bowman, of Zanesville, and on Sunday she gave a dinner in her honor to the following young ladies: Misses Helen Roe, Nina Bowman, Babel Roe of Ossian, and Adele Brickley of Uniondale.

Glen Jackson went to Greencastle, Sunday, to be the guest of Miss Maude Weirich, who is there attending school at DePauw university.

Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Melching and Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Spencer motored to Hartford City, Sunday, in the latter's auto and were guests of Mrs. Melching's brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kline.

Mrs. Nellie Craig-Smith, of Manchester, Ia., who has been visiting with her brother-in-law, David Craig, and other Ossian relatives for several weeks, will leave Thursday morning for Oberlin, O., to visit with her granddaughter, Miss Frances White, of Davenport, Ia., who is now attending Oberlin college.

Miss Lillian Marsh, of Fort Wayne, was a week-end guest of Misses Eleanor and Pearl King.

Mr. and Mrs. John Goshorn, Mr. and Mrs. Elwin Goshorn and children, also their guests, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Goshorn and son, of Montpelier, were all dinner guests Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fox, of near Uniondale.

Mrs. Sarah Foughty and Miss Grace Derr spent Sunday as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Ormsby, of Uniondale.

Mrs. Fred Mills, son Alfred and daughter Catherine, were at Murray, Sunday, visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Brickley.

Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Fryback, daughter Marie, and sons Hugh and Paul, of Warren, motored to Ossian Sunday and were guests for dinner with Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Fryback, and in the evening with Dr. and Mrs. Earl D. Poffenberger.

Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Trevey and Mr. and Mrs. Frank McDowell all went to Fort Wayne Sunday to see Mrs. Sarah McDowell, of Sheldon, a sister of Mr. Trevey, who was recently operated on for cancer of the stomach at the Lutheran hospital. Mrs. McDowell is in a very critical condition, with very little hope for her recovery.

Mr. and Mrs. Will Cotton and children were Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Allen.

Mrs. Abram Kreigh, who has been suffering from asthma, still continues to be confined to her bed.

Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Morton accompanied by John Gibson, left today for Texarkana, Ar., to visit with Mrs. Morton's brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur M. Gibson.

The M. E. ladies whose birthdays come in November, are arranging for a social to be given Friday evening in the K. of P. hall. They are preparing an interesting program and will serve dainty refreshments for a dime. The November ladies are Mesdames Elizabeth Prough, Pauline Osborne, Elmira Quackenbush, Ina Miller, Bertha Hoover, Harriett Hoof, Hazel Burns, Lillian Spencer, Loretta Ady, Hazel Wilson, Cora Donaghy, Fannie Wilson, Matie Numbers and R. L. Wilkinson.

The Eastern Stars had a splendid initiatory meeting at the hall the other evening. Two candidates were introduced to the mysteries of the order and a very large turnout of members watched the program with interest. The lodge made preparations for a good eat and at the end of the work those who had a sharp appetite partook of all the dainties of the season. A large number of the order were present.
