Zanesville, Ind. Oct. 27. -- Joseph Shoup met with a very serious accident Monday while loading a stove onto his wagon at the C. & E. depot at Markle. His team became scared at an automobile and Mr. Shoup was struck by the hind wheel of the wagon and knocked down, the wagon passing over his body. One rib was broken and one kidney badley crushed. Mr. Shoup's son, Dr. H. B. (or E.?) Shoup, was telephoned for at once, and also Dr. Duemling, of Fort Wayne, was called, and everything possible was done to ease his suffering. At this writing Mr. Shoup is resting as well as could be expected under the circumstances.
Chancey Olliver, of Ossian, tranacted business in Zanesville, Tuesday.
Mrs. L. F. Newhouse, of Uniondale, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Keplinger.
Harry Keplinger and C. A. Clark transacted business in Fort Wayne, Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Amos Ward spent Saturday and Sunday as the guest of Mr. Ward's brother near Huntertown.
Mrs. George Smuts returned home from the Lutheran hospital, Fort Wayne, last week.
At the evening session of the Union township Sunday school convention, J. W. Keplinger was elected president to fill the unexpired term of O. A. Knight, who has moved to Fort Wayne. Von Knight, of Purdue university, spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Knight.
Mrs. Mollie Shoup is on the sick list.
Mrs. Daisy Merchant, of Huntington, is visiting at the B. L. Merchant home.
Walter Espich and family, Mrs. A. M. Meeks and daughter, Minnie, spent Sunday at the home of Roe Hunter, of Ossian.
Rev. J. G. Wise will give a prohibition lecture at Hoagland, Friday night.
Charles Clark, C. A. Clark, H. H. Keplinger, John Smuts, Noah Walker, Chalres Keplinger, Sim Weaver, Virgil Smuts and U. G. Smuts, motored to Huntington, Wednesday night, to hear ex-President Taft.
