A surprise basket dinner was given Sunday for Mrs. John Bender and daughter Della at their home south of town. The following children of Mrs. Bender and their families were present: Mr. and Mrs. James Wilson and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Brickley, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bender and children, Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Eichorn and Miss Bernell Krimm.
Mr. and Mrs. William Bender and family spent Sunday in Huntington with friends.
The Live Wire class of the St. Paul’s church held an ice cream social on the church lawn Friday.
The Wabash Valley Thrashing ring met for its annual settlement and social time at the grove near Bolling Springs Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gardenour and daughter, of Fort Wayne, spent Sunday in the Kern Mitchell home.
Mr. and Mrs. George Brickley and Mrs. Frank Crum visited Miss Selah Patton Friday at the Huntington hospital, where the latter is convalescing from a recent operation.
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Spade and son spent Friday in the Henry Swartz home.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Swartz and family spent Sunday in the John Slagel home at Huntington.
The following people were entertained in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bickel, west of town, last Sunday: Mr. and Mrs. George Morris and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harry McFarren and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ophel Powell and family, and Mrs. G. F. McFarren, all of Bluffton, and Eddie Pence and H. M. Barcaw, grandfather of Mrs. Bickel, of Lebanon, Ind.
Miss Waneta Eichorn and Miss Dorothy Oflier (sp?) expect to enter the Huntington county hospital to take up nurses’ training. They will take up their duties some time in September.
The Rockcreek Center Thrashing ring met Tuesday night for the annual settlement and social meet at the home of Alva Lesh.
The Higher Booster class of the Horeb church met at the home of their teacher, George Alshouse, Tuesday night, for its regular monthly meeting. After the regular business a social time was enjoyed by all. It was decided at this meeting to have an ice cream social on the church lawn Tuesday night, August 15. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Collins. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Collins and daughter, James, May and Jennie Wolfcale, Ruth Haflich, Olean Brickley, Mr. and Mrs. Zaner LeMaster and son, Hilda Lesh, Mr. and Mrs. Homer McElhaney, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lesh and daughter, Daniel Lesh, Samuel and Jessie Farling, Mrs. Sarah Brown, Mrs. Homer Sparks, Mr. and Mrs. Von Gimmel and family, Clyde, Claude and Helen Shadle and Mr. and Mrs. George Alshouse and daughter.
The Rev. and Mrs. I. C. Birk have as their guest for a few days an uncle, George Birk, and daughter, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Beller and children, of Wakarusa, Ind., and Prof. and Mrs. F. J. Birk, brother of the Rev. Mr. Birk, and son, of Wabash.
