We recently found where we connect to this Maddux family through Elizabeth Heckman married to Nathan & Samuel Campbell married to Catherine. Have you followed their lines?

I have not followed the Campbell or Heckmen lines but I wish i knew how you connected into the Maddux line as I am interested in living relatives like myself. My Great Great Grandfather was John Wesley Maddux, the son between William and Nathan. My Great Grandfather Andrew was the oldest son of John Wesley Maddux by his second wife Sarah Elizabeth Black Holcomb. Andrew married Sarah Jane Brickley and died young leaving three children Floyd (my Grandfather), Frank (whose children live in Michigan) and Martha (White) whom I know nothing about. Three years after Andrew died Sarah Jane Brickley Maddux married John Henry Miller and moved to MoArk, Arkansas between Corning, ARkansas and Poplar Bluff, MO Since my Grandfather Floyd was over 2 1/2 at the time and was raised as one of the Miller boys, he did not know how to spell his name so he spelled it Maddex. His children Deloy, Ernest, and Laville went to school and their teacher made them change it from Maddex to Maddox. We did not realize until five years ago that it should have been Maddux

I have an interest in both the Heckman and Maddux Families. William F. Smith married Dessie Heckman on April 15, 1905. She appears to have died prior to the 1920 Federal Census. They did have two children, Virgil and Della Smith. If this woman is related to you can you tell me who her parents are?
My interest in the Maddux family comes from a project that I am collecting information on. In 1906 there was a quilt made by the Ladies Aid society at the United Brethen Church in Nine Mile Indiana. On the Quilt all the names of all the Members of the church were embroidered on pieces of fabric and then assembled into Crazy Quilt Blocks. I am collecting data on all these families so one day I can write a book about this church and it's members. On the Quilt there is a Mrs. F. Maddux, (I have learned that it is Frank), James Maddux, Stanton Maddux and Minnie Maddux. I did find them in the 1900 Federal Census. If you have any information on this Madux family I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Janet Smith

I, too, am interested in the Maddex/Maddox family from Huntington & Wells Counties. My record show the spelling as Maddox. There is a Leander E. Maddox, b. 1851, who was a promenant doctor in the area. He was written about in the "Biographical and Historical Record of Adams and Wells Counties, Indiana" by Lewis Publishing Co. in Chicago, 1887. pp. 738. He married Mary Emile Newman in 1850, daughter of John & Lydia (Stanton) Newman (my great-great grandparents), sister of Willard Allen Newman (my great-grandfather).
The Statnton given name mentioned by Janet Smith about the quilt she was working on might be of interest since Lydia's maiden name was Stanton. She & brother, Riley, came from North Carolina. Riley married John's sister, Sarah. I found both families living togethre in the 1850 Census.

Mark,
May have found a connection to the Maddux Family after all. It seems that John W. Maddux's first wife, Catharine Miller is the daughter of John and Hannah (Smith) Miller. I am working on confirmation but I believe that she is the sister of James Smith, my 3GGrandfather. The Millers, the Smiths' and the Overly are founding members listed in a historical account of the Nine Mile United Methodist Church...I will attach a text transcript. John and Hannah were likely the couple married in Darke County, Ohio on 12/23/1824. Census records seem to support this possiblilty. The Charles Miller listed in the write up is likely their oldest son born a year after they were married. It is interesting to note that Charles Miller is listed in the 1850 Census between James and Susannah (Overly) Smith and Thomas and Emeline (Asher) Overly. Any information that you might have on this Miller family would be appreciated. Thanks,
Janet Smith
I attached the census records but could not attach the write up. It did not support the file type. I am willing to share with anyone who is interested. Will send to to you direct.
