Looking for information on John Welch who appeared in the 1860 census for Liberty twp, Wabash Co., Indiana:
John Welch - 55 - Farmer - b. Ireland
Joanna - 35 - b. Ireland
John - 18 - b. Ireland
Mary - 16 - b. Ireland
Hanora - 12 - b. Ireland
Michl - 1 - b. Ireland

His wife Johanna and sons Michael and John are believed to have moved to Wisconsin by 1870. The census for Janesville, Rock Co., WI includes:
Welch, John - 26 - Stone Cutter - b. Ireland
" , Catharine - 26 - Keeps House - b. Ireland
" , Ellen - 3 - b. Wis
" , Hannah - 1 - b. Wis
Welch, Johannah - 55 - Keeps House - b. Ireland
" , Michael - 1 - b. Ind.

The obit for the above John (26) says that he was a railroad worker. It also provides: "Mr. Welsh was of Irish parentage, being born in the old country Jan. 28, 1841. He came to America at the age of eight and lived with his parents in Indian until 1865 when he came to Janesville." His death certificate indicates that his father's name was John.

Looking for info on John Sr. (b. abt. 1805). I'm assuming that he may be buried in Wabash Co. (he doesn't have a gravestone in the family plot in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Janesville, WI). It would probably be a Catholic cememtery. It is also possible that he had a first wife who died before 1859 and is buried there too.

Have surveyed all known cemeteries in Wabash County and find only one John Welch buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, lagro, Lagro Township, Wabash County. Only information on stone is that he died September 1960. Lists wife also buried there as Ellen. John and Ellen are in both 1840 and 1850 Wabash County Censuses he born in Ireland about 1800 and she born Ireland about 1800. Known children from 1850 census were Morris (also spelled Maurice) born aabout 1835 in Pennsylvania and Mary A. born about 1840 in Indiana.
There was no obituary for John in the local papers. I also checked will records and found no entry. Whether this is you John or not I cannot tell but is the only one I can find a record for.
The Baptismal Records of St. Patrick's Church doe indicated a baptism for a Michael the sone of John and Johanna in 1858.

Thanks so much for taking the time to do the lookups.

When I looked again, John was in fact in the Lagro, Wabash, WI census in 1850.

Ellen would make sense as a first wife's name based on grandchildren's names (and I hadn't even thought about that before...). And the cemetery location would work.

But the ones I'm looking for probably immigrated in 1849 or so. And children John (b. 1841), Mary (b. abt. 1844) and Hanora (b. abt. 1848) would have been alive for the 1850 census.
