Does anyone have any information on Robert J Holtz who was married to Maggie Simpson. Maggie was the daughter of Margaret Simpson and BW Simpson of Eugene. Maggie died a year after my grandfather Clarence Simpson Holtz was born. No record as to where she is buried and cannot find out what happened to Robert Holtz after Maggie died and Clarence was born. Clarence was raised by Maggie's mother, Margaret Simpson, until her death in 1904 and then was raised by his aunt who was married to a Malone.

I have sent updates to other members to link them to parents. Send me an email to schwablet@aol.com if you have questions.

My great-grandfather Manford Gavin Swim and his wife Elizabeth lived in a cabin in "Kiger Hollow" in Vermillion County Indiana. I remember visiting the site in the early 60's with my grandfather. All that was left was a few logs. A farmer owned the area and it was quite overran. Now does anyone know its location on a map of the county as to where the "Hollow" might be located?

I have been searching for a connection to my wife's great grandmother, Rhoda Haggard Earhart. I located her in the 1860 Monticello, Wayne, KY census (age 8) living with William Minette and Delitha. I was able to track William to Parke County, Indiana. I know that Rhoda Haggard lived in Parke County and married George Earhart there in 1869.

I was wondering who Delitha was and if perhaps she may have been a sister, aunt or relation who took Rhoda in after death of her parents (just a theory). We have no information on Rhoda except that she was born in KY in 1852.

As Allen was living at the Vermillion County Poor Farm with many of his family having already passed, there was perhaps no money for a gravestone or maybe he was buried at the Poor Farm.
I do not see that Allen Bonebrake is buried in that cemetery. But...those readings are usually done by reading of the stones. He may not have a stone. The Vermillion County Health Department would have his burial spot IF he died in Vermillion County, Indiana. Also the funeral home who had charge of his burial would have that information. Of course, an obituary would be the best source of information. He shows up in the 1930 census, so it is probable that there is an obituary somewhere.

I'm not sure if everybody already knows about her...but Littleton and Susan had a daughter Hanna Elizabeth Hall (1863-1924). Her first husband, Franklin Pierce Lewis, was a brother of my great-great-great grandmother. In the records for two of her subsequent marriages, she lists her parents as "Littleton Hall" and "Susan Collins".

After Franklin died around 1892, she married George Chandler (1893), George Blacketer (1902), and Francis Stevens (1922).

I also went looking through this cemetery looking for Martin's grave. He died Feb 6, 1898 (I think buried 8th) in this cemetery. I had heard from the locals that the records were burned by some disgruntled ex-cemetery worker. So I am not sure what can be dug up (excuse pun).

On my own efforts, I did find a small unmarked grave two rows (in sun) in front of the Patrick Murdock family plot. Best I could come up with.

If any body knows more info, leave it here. Thanks.

Michael

I think I found her obit, but I can't view it. If you go to www.newspaperarchive.com and search the Clinton Weekly for 1913 You should find it. Search just on Minnett. Use advanced search, pick Indiana, and city of clinton. I also narrowed it between years of 1910 and 1920. It was in the January 2, 1913 edition.

This is a subscription site, but you can search for free. You can also view 2 pages a day for free. I have already done my 2 pages, which is why I can't view it! It is summarized at the bottom and that is why I am thinking it is your lady. It says her son is Thomas, and she is the oldest person in the county. It does refer to her as Elizabeth.

They lived in Fountain Co., IN until William's death in 1880. She was living with her son George Washington Mosbarger in Vermillion Co. at her death 1899. I am looking for anyone that might have a photo of Eliza Jane and William Johnson. William and Susan had children: Nancy b. 1-27-1831 married Jacob Rice,
Eliza b 2-25-1833 married Jacob Rice after her sister died, Norman b 8-30-1836 married Elizabeth Rice, Hannah b. 2-17-1837 married William L Mortimer, Thomas b 7-15-1838 married Sarah Jane Marsh, Margaret b 1-8-1841 married Benjamin S Hatt, Jacob Daniel b 9-26-1847 married Mary Annie Besser Lonberger, Susannah Mary b 1-1850 married John Q Marsh, Zebra b 9-8-1851 married Micheal Corkey, James W. b 9-1-1854 married Mary A Keanorn, George W b 6-7-1858 married Mary A Patterson. I for alot of info and photos of this family and I would to share with anyone from any of these lines. I'm hoping to find someone who has a photo of William johnson so I can compare with the one I have.

Information on Mary Walter

Hello to all, I hope it is not too late to join this discussion. I am the great-granddaughter of Mary and James Walter and the granddaughter of Max and Mildred Wheat. I have been trying to find information on my great-grandmother. I know that she was adopted by the Pyles, but I have been trying to find any information on her birth parents. The story I was told was that she was born on a boat as the family migrated from Czechoslovakia and that her birth father left the family early on to return home. She was raised by her birth mother along with her siblings until she (Mary) was 18 and then the Pyles adopted her. I am not sure how true this story is because family stories sometimes get twisted a bit. I was also told that Amanda Pyle burned all of the records pertaining to Mary's birth parents. Any information would be appreciated and if anyone is interested, I can fill in some of the information I know of the more recent family.
Jessica

I've found Martha Howard married Nelson Hines in Fayette County Virginia in January 1824 They had a son John Hinds born in October 1824 also in kentucky but i havent found birth information I have no information on Martha Howard other than the marriage record in Fayette and although she is not named she is apparently with nelson and their son in the Fountain County, Indiana 1830 census she was between the ages of 15 and 20 on that census so she would have been only 14 or 15 at the time of her marriage. I haven't been able to locate a death record for the elusive Martha and have searched in fountain and vermillion county indiana and also in kentucky her death would have happened between the 1830 census and Nelson's marriage to Matilda Henthorn in Vermillion county Indiana in 1836 I think she must have died because their son John remained with Nelson. Of course it is simply possible that being so young she simply abandoned her child and the marriage I just dont know. If anyone can help solve the mystery of Martha Howard Hinds Hines please please help

Take a look at 1850 census for Borren, Dekalb County, Indiana. The name was not spelled correctly, but that will list Ezekiel & Sarah. Good starting point. Ezekiel & Sarah were from Pennsylvania, but that's as far back I can find.

Jacob moved to Missouri, as did Ephraim, and then I lost them. Terre Haute? I'm interested in that information.

Good luck

Ryan, that is very good work on your part. Congratulations. What do you now consider to be the major questions about this lineage which remain to be considered?
Thank you so much for your time and effort researching this question for me. Your responses prompted me to research an aspect I had dismissed in my earlier research - the Hannah Shaw who lived in Highland, Vermillion Co., IN, born about 1844.

On Florence's death certificate, it does not list her father and only lists her mother as Hannah Shaw. Because Florence's maiden name is listed as Shaw, I originally assumed that Hannah was listed as a Shaw because the person providing the information on Florence's death certificate did not know Hannah's maiden name, only her married name.

After researching the available marriage records, I see that the Hannah Shaw (born about 1844) of Vermillion Co., IN, was married several times: to John Lunger (or Linger) on September 9, 1886 in Vermilion Co., IL; prior to that, to William Mock on January 8, 1880 in Vermillion Co., IN. She appears as Hannah Mock in the 1880 census, and as Hannah Lunger (or Linger) in the 1900 census, 1910 census, and on her death record (which also lists her parents as Hiram Shaw and Rachel Gerrard).

Prior to William Mock, Hannah was married to Henry Carney on November 15, 1868 in Vermillion Co., IN. So, I searched the 1870 census and found a Henry Carney and Hannah Carney living in Warren Co., IN, which is the county north of Vermillion Co., IN, (just across the county border from Highland Township). There were 3 children living with them at the time, two of whom were born well before their marriage: Franklin Carney (10 years old) and Florence D. Carney (7 years old). I believe Florence and Franklin are Hannah's children because Franklin appears with Hannah in the 1880 census (as Franklin Mock) and in the 1900 census (as Frank Lunger), and always identified as her son (not stepson). Florence does not appear in the 1880 census as a Carney or Mock, but my Florence was married to her husband (John William Lawlyes) in 1878. The middle initial notwithstanding (D. vs. B.), the Florence Carney in the 1870 census is the right age and her mother appears to be Hannah Shaw. If so (and I know there is still much work to be done here), then that would still leave the question of Florence's father open.

I wanted to pass along what I had been able to find, and to thank you again for your help - I truly appreciate it. The search continues.

Cemeteries are often documented by just the stones that are there. It's always possible that a stone was there, but broken or knocked down through the years. Sometimes the only documentation of where someone was buried is in the old obituaries. It became law that all births and deaths were to be reported in the year of 1882. If anyone you are looking for died in 1882 or later, their death record should tell where they were buried. But then, it was the doctors who were to report these births and deaths and old newspapers tell that some doctors neglected to abide by the law when it first came out.
