I, too, am a Pentecost from the Union County bunch; but I know nothing of the Nelsons. Although I've not lived in Indiana for many years, I have done a lot of genealogy and have visited the area as part of my quest. I'd love to touch bases and review any possible connection. Pls contact me directly at... palladin2@aol.com

Look forward to meeting another relative.
Cordially...Linda Pentecost Drake

I am a desendent on the Nelson and Pentecost families from Union County Indiana. I have a photo of the 1915 Nelson/Pentecost reunion taken in Koscuisko Couny Indiana.
I wanted to know if there is still a reunion taking place. I had an aunt who atended one back in the 1980's or 1990's. I would love to attend one.
Any help would be apprecitiated.

That is because they do not have the dates you need. Contact Shelby County historical society / library / put a querie on the page. Just so much can be done online. The rest is road work and lots of writing.

K

Thank you.

Can you find anything on an orphanage or children's home that they (Robert, Viola, or Richard) may have lived in? Richard told me that at one time he lived in a home called Frazee. Also, I thought I found a census record that listed Viola in a children's home. However, I have not found anything on my grandfather (Robert Lawrence - Last Name "Lutes" or "Hartman") who I am told was also raised in an orphanage/children's home.

Thank you again!!

Thank you so much. I was not sure where so I posted in several counties that I thought were possibilities. With help of others I found the 1940 Census and Marriage information of Andy and Hazel. However, I have never seen the 1930 Census, thank you. What source did you find the 1930 Census and what information did you enter to find them?

I am also looking for more information on the William Hartman and Cora McNutt.

The information that is confusing to me is that my grandfather (Robert Lawrence Hartman) went by last name "Lutes" until he tried to enter into the military and officials told him his last name was "Hartman". I am trying to locate his actual birth records that would state his legal name and hopefully his biological parents. All the census information points to Andy being the father but stories are told that Hazel was taken advantage of and so I not sure if he truly is the father or not. Some could maybe have thought she was being taken advantage of simply because of the age difference. I don't know, so I am trying to find out.

Thank you so much!

And I was also watching a show on tv called Hitler's children and Rudolph grandson was on.. my family and him have a shocking resemblance in appearance.. one name I know in my family is a Milton Hess? I have previously been in contact with Karen Creamer who put me in touch with Julie Schlesselman Genealogy and Local History Division Branch Manager at the Franklin County Public Library District 919 Main Street Brookville, Indiana 47012. Julie informed me that nothing could be found that I did not already have. I also have had a posting on the Franklin County Brick Wall for a couple of years with no response.
I found them in Ray Township, Franklin County IN in the 1850 census. They have his middle initial wrong, but you know how the census goes. He is with his parnets:

Eliska Davis 58
Elizabeth Davis 54
John L Davis 18
Lydia A Davis 16
Elisha Davis 9

I have done research on the DAVIS name in Union County because there are 4 different families. The name ELISKA is NOT a Union county name. Your best bet would be Franklin County where the name DAVIS is almost like SMITH.

KACoffey

I am searching for any information about the family of my GGGrandfather John S Davis. His Civil War Records from the National Archives say that he was born in Union County Indiana and was 32 and living in Franklin County at the time of his enlistment in 1864. I do know that he married Sarah Ann McFarland ( Mcfarlin ) on September 9th 1852 and in 1860 they were living in Franklin County with their children Joseph, Robert, Martha and Hannah. My GGrandfather John Henry was born in 1863. The family later settled in Woodford County Illinois and John S Davis passed away in 1871. I know nothing at all and have no leads about who his parents may have been and any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks !

I'm looking for any information on Simon Martin (b. 1760, Maryland, d. 1839) in Union County. Per family history collected in 1946 Simon Martin and family moved from Delaware and were early residents of the area that is now Union County. Simon's sons (Simon II and William) moved to Rush County after a decade or so, but Simon and his wife reportedly remained in Union County and are and buried there. There also is an alternate theory on the Internet that Simon I may have been "William". Information on either names would be helpful.

A Margaret Price Showalter is in a collateral line of mine. Ephraim Price Showalter (1823-1898) was said in Biographical and Genealogical History of Wayne, Fayette, Union, and Franklin Counties, 1899, p 724-725, to be son of Joseph Showalter and Margaret Price. This Ephraim Showalter was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Shelby County, IN. He married Mary Abernathy in 1848 in Union County. If you are interested, I can supply a printout of the details I have about Ephraim, with sources.

Re: Daniel Fosher Family

hello friends and cousins. re daniel fosher/foshier/fascher. he was a hessian conscript who deserted and fought on the american side. b5/12/1762, d 8/4/1849. he was part of my hale/fosher family group that left virginia and migrated to ohio and indiana after the war of 1812. there were several errors in the original posting. I have an autobiography of my ancestor john hale b 1825. daniel fosher was the father in law of john hale b 1793,not david hale. daniel foshier was the father of mary/polly fosher who married john hale b 1793. she died and the children were taken to live with their grandfather at richmond indiana. they were salome, daniel, david and judy. john hale 2nd wife was asenaath searl, daughter of elisha searl, mother of john hale b 1825, who was the writer. daniel fosher was a hero, doctor, founding member of the 4 mile church of the brethren, many records of this church exist. he also was a member of the underground railroad. he was a man to be proud of. so I am not directly descended dna wise but proud to be part of his family. sara crystal, scrapbasket@earthlink.net

The books are sitting. I have looked in them once. It will be a long time before I understand the system. We are just housing them. They still belong to the cemetery. We have a written version online at

http://www.union-county.lib.in.us/Union%20County%20History/C...

The books are old, smelly and do a job on my allergies. I hope the above link will help. I will have more time later this summer after we get done with inventory, the new website and summer reading program.

Karen

West Point cemetery was "abandoned" by its board earlier this year. They had complained that they did not have enough income to compete with the cost of maintaining the cemetery. A group of citizens have gotten together and formed a new board. The records are sitting behind me at the Union County Public Library HOWEVER I have not really looked at them. According to some they are VERY hard to figure out. We will just have to wait and see what happens at the cemetery.

K.A. Coffey

The last time I was there..25 years ago, it was a little old lady. She wasn't very helpful. If you need more than names try to get in touch with the courthouse.

My Campbells are there and so are my Forkners but they are listed as Faulkner

http://www.union-county.lib.in.us/Union%20County%20History/C...

Does anyone have information about the origin and evolution of the Salem Friends Meeting House and Cemetery, located in Center Township? I believe it began as a Quaker Church, founded in 1818, and it is still in use, although not as Quaker. I'd like to know more! Thank you!
