JOSEPH H. BAKER, M.D., a successful physician and surgeon of Stockwell, is a native of Tippecanoe County, Indiana, born in Monroe, Lauramie Township, January 19, 1854, a son of DR. MOSES BAKER, who settled with his family in Stockwell in the year 1867. JOSEPH H. received good educational advantages, attending the Collegiate Institute of Stockwell, and the University at Bloomington, this State, graduating from the former in 1871. After completing his literary education he taught school for sixth months. In 1874 he began reading medicine, and in 1877 graduated from Jefferson Medical College at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and immediatley after his graduation returned to Stockwell, where he has since followed his chosen profession, building up a good practice which is steadily increasing.
DR. BAKER was united in marriage October 5, 1881, to MISS BELLE MILLER, a daughter of JAMES H. MILLER, a resident of Thorntown, Indiana. This union has been blessed with one child, MOSES H., who was born June 4, 1883. The doctor is a member of the Phi Delta Theta Society, and the Tippecanoe County Medical Society. He is also a Knight of Pythias. Both he and his wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal church, and among the respected citizens of Tippecanoe County
