HENRY L. BAILEY, of the Lahr House, Lafayette, is a native of New York State, born in Plattsburg, April 18, 1860, a son of J.B.L. and ESTHER (BETTERS) BAILEY, his father being a native of Canada and his mother of Paris, France. He was reared and educated in his native city, remaining there until attaining the age of nineteen years, when he came to Tippecanoe County, Indiana, locating in Lafayette in March 1879, and has since been a resident of this city. For two and a half years after coming here he was connected with the St. Nicholas Hotel, and the three years following he was clerk for the St. Nicholas, and since then has been identified with the Lahr House.

MR. BAILEY was married in Lafayette, June 21, 1882, to MISS HARRIET D. OBER, who was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of DAVID OBER, who is now deceased. MR. and MRS. BAILEY are the parents of four children, as follows--HENRY LEROY, Jr.; HARRIET CECELIA; LOUISE HAZEL; and CLEMENTINE ESTHER. Politically MR. BAILEY is a staunch Democrat, and always takes an active interest in the political and public affairs in general of his county. He is a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. He was one of the charter members of the Catholic Benevolent Legion, of which he was the first orator, and is now orator and trustee of the same. He is also Recording Secretary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
